Just a bit of an update on the heraldsun website!

UPDATE 11.55am: RICHMOND will make a formal announcement on Ben Cousins' future tomorrow morning.

Cousins met with club officials this morning, but was tight lipped when leaving Punt Rd this morning.

“I’ve got nothing to say at the moment. There will be a time and place for that,” Cousins said.

Tigers football manager Craig Cameron said the club would announce its decision tomorrow morning.

“We’ve had further discussions with Ben Cousins today. Both Ben and the club have sat down and had a chat. There will be no further announcements today, but there will be an announcement tomorrow morning,” he said.

If the decision's been made, why stage manage a presser for tomorrow morning? Just do it this afternoon. By the time it happens, all the journo's and ex-footballer commentators will have all had their two bit's worth on what their sources are saying and it will be yesterday's news. The club is missing out on an opportunity to influence how this is being reported.

Agree, they've turned it into a soap opera

Cuz probably asked for the delay so he could get his camera crew and director ready to tape the event as the ending to his Docu.

Pre-Game presser.

Ben's retired
Could also be an announcement that he's going around again, clearly the media interest in this issue will result in a press conference either way
Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much to suggest that he will stay on.

I don't like the media referring to it as the club's decision when there seems to be just as much evidence to suggest it will be Ben who's decided not to play on.

I do find the timing interesting though. With his documentary only a week away and the last few minutes left blank to cover the last few weeks, you do have to wonder if it's all being done so he can tie up all the loose ends of the documentary with his retirement announcement and perhaps even footage of his game against StKilda.

They were probably in the meeting already with Hardwick.

I recall it because I looked back during the week and mentioned the discussion, although not the details, on a recent thread.

Funny your memory recalls someone specifically questioning "whether drafting Cuz positively influenced our membership in 2009" but you can't recall who it was. They know who they are but you don't? I suggest it's more likely your claim has no substance, although would be more than happy to be shown to be wrong.

I get the feeling you think I was implying that it was you Rosy?

Do you think the drafting of Cousins was the reason we had a significant increase in our membership in 2009?

What I'm no getting is why a 3 hour meeting?

Seems pretty long for a retirement decision to be discussed? ???

Greg Denham implied that the RFC would give Cuz another year if he was convinced he could go on and still play at his current level. Maybe that's what they were discussing? I think it was more than a "hi guys I am retiring" type of meeting.

Its just gives our $pon$or$ more exposure with all the logos there for all to be seen at the press conference.

They probably had it all resolved in the first half hour then sat around chewing the fat and letting the media wonder what they could have been discussing all that time.

If the rumours are true then a good way to end it all. Playing very well. Has decided the body is getting too old for another year. Well done Cuz and Well Done RFC.

I was in the anti-Cuz recruiting boat initially but looking back over the two years, while it hasn't been all smooth sailing, it's definitely been a positive for the club and for Benny in my opinion.

That pretty much sums up my position.

I've been pleasantly surprised at the positive influence of Cousins around the club, and I reckon he'd easily be good enough to get games next year. However I'd rather see him bowing out while he is still earning a regular senior spot, than wallowing in the magoos.

Yep. I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't suspect that was the case. A reasonable assumption seeing you chipped in to a discussion I was having with someone else about the matter once before. It's a pity your memory conveniently left you so you can post a very specific comment but not remember who made it.

I reckon the shirt will be off.

In my opinion if Cousins has an injury free pre-season and plays 20-22 games next season, he could go close to winning our B+F.

James Hird won a B+F at 35, and Richo came 2nd in the brownlow at 33.

Cousins will be 32 for most of next year, then turns 33 in the second half of the season.

Worse players than him have gone around again and done okay. Benny's hard running and sublime footy smarts ensure he could have an impact for at least 1 more year, maybe even more. Even if he drops away, he'll be top 10 and forces the young players to run into intelligent positions with his handballs.

And there's no doubt he will be running his guts out until the final siren every week.

Recently there has been nobody on our list playing at a higher level than Cousins. He's a running machine and I can't hide my love for him!
