I very much wanted Ben before we picked him up - I felt he would do just fine with us. He proved me right and I am very grateful to Cuz for staying on track and for all he has done for our kids. I will be gutted if he goes, absolutely gutted as I don't think his work is done yet for the RFC out on the field.

well it's more or less official

of course the HUN have to claim to know everything before it happens

I really hoped he would go on for two reasons

1. because I believe he has something to offer many of our tiger cubs.

2. To stick it up all those in the media who have harassed him over the passed few years hoping he would fall off the wagon just so they could be proved right!

Dont think Cuz will want to bite the hand that feeds him. The media will be reportedly paying him $1mill+ for his documentary.

A lot of drama regarding a veteran player for a team 15th on the ladder.

Given the fuss that is going on I'm not sure if he is retiring or ascending into heaven

Maybe Cuz cant go around another year and wants to go out whilst hes still playing good footy.
The amount of media exposure we had had over the 2 years has been amazing.
Hope the young guys learnt a few things from him whilst hes been at the club especially that you dont give up and to play your heart out.
Thanks Cuz it has been a great 2 years seeing you go round in the yellow and black.

He's hardly keeping a young, talented and developing midfielder out of the team as we simply don't have that many.

Not sure about that. If Foley's up and firing next year and Dimma continues to experiment with options (a la Morton), the midfield might be crowded for options. And in that instance, Cuz would be keeping a potential midfielder from developing.

He has served his purpose and it would be way better if he went out on top of his game. Another lackadaisical pre season by Cuz (as in his application pre 2010) and his on field return might be seriously compromised. What then? Back to the Burgers?

All in all - the best end to his career that he could hope for.

Ben has restored pride in the number 32 guernsey; if he is finishing up, I'm looking forward to round 22 against the smears more than ever

Could be the first person to be made a life member of the RFC after being involved for only two seasons.

The more i think about it the more sense it makes for Ben to retire.

He`s better off finishing off while still playing well instead of going out like Richo did.
It will be fanatstic for us supporters and Ben to say goodbye and thank you etc. while he`s hopefully just played in a winning side, instead of him walking around in a suit with a bung leg before the game like Richo`s farewell.

Not to mention the great feelings and self-esteem and pride Ben will finish off his career with,i reckon it would be very bad for Ben mentally to finish his career off in a bad way like injury or poor form.

And surely the teaching aspect has run it`s course with our young players hasn`t it?
The young players have had 1 to 2 years training and playing with Ben,if they haven`t learnt what he does by now they never will.

Gerard Healy on OTC basically confirmed he is retiring. Said he had spoken to Cuz this evening (may have been last evening) and tomorow will confirm what everyone in the football world is thinking. :(

I dunno if this is the thread to start having a go at Tivendale? The bloke played 188 games and afterall he did win 2 Terry Wallace medals according to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Tivendale

Its sure to make the Cousins haters happy, but then again they are probalby going to find fault with his retirement as well.
