Why does everything have to go back to Jackson?

Did you notice I also equally mentioned Newmo? In case you're not aware the relevance is that they are both in our leadership group and assumedly a position of influencing other players.

I also mentioned Jacko because DH has made it very clear how important Dan's leadership qualities are for us. He's given him high praise. Do you agree with him there? Chris is captain yet not too many on here give him credit for the development of the kids. Does he have any influence?

Certain people who make claims about Ben's leadership and development of our players never make the same claims about others. How would they possibly know? It just intrigues me how anyone not actually involved would know how much influence another individual has had.

I wouldn't have a clue about the influence of any player on others and I certainly haven't said the claims about Ben are not true. I suspect those making them on here mightn't either.

Seeing you've responded to my post to Leysy maybe you can actually answer the questions I asked him?

There is no doubt the club has benefited in numerous ways TG. However some on here will dispute that.

WT, surely the anti-Cousins brigade would at least concede the drafting of Cousins has been a success on a number of levels.

I should imagine that lots of players inspire or influence other players in all sort of ways. But it doesn't make them perfect. kingy is a good example. he would be a fine example of "having a crack" but not in his disposal or dicsipline.

Newmy has a good year this year and has stepped up as captain. He has been a bit of a relevation actually.

I am not so sure about jackson. He has played some good games to be sure but his dumb footy and poor discpline has been their for all to see.

It was indeed, membership, leadership, a fantastic story of personal redemption and he is great to watch so he has made a pretty awful team more bearable to support.

On the other hand, if before we drafted him you were told that we weren’t going to make the finals with him. In fact we were going to have two consecutive finishes to the bottom 2-3 but just outside the priority pick zone would you still have drafted him?

A yes for me colonel

If I was also told he would bring the benefits outlined in your first sentence I certainly still would have drafted him.

As someone who didn't want him I am extremely happy the club drafted Ben Cousins.

Me too, I think. There are many factors in the improvement of a number of our players - the coaching staff being the most significant. However, we have not had a brownlow medallist in our team for >30 years and have had one other premiership player in the past decade. This must count for something. In addition, on saturday - and probably on many occasions this past two years - Cousins probably worked harder than anyone, which must be a positive influence.

Twitterverse going a bit crazy that Cuz has announced his plans to retire to the club.

What could Jackson possibly offer in terms of midfield development to the likes of Martin/Cotchin/Edwards/Collins? What leadership could he offer these players?

I think Cousins see the writing on the wall and will retire and the club to its credit will let him go out on his terms.

Smart play all round. The club gets its desired outcome and so does Ben.

Still don't think it is the right move but the way it has been handled is fantastic if it plays that way.

Not necessarily jb. One poster even went to the extent of question whether drafting Cuz positively influenced our membership in 2009.

SCOOP Denham is usually on the money and he seems to think the club was willing to give him another year.

A shame if true, as I had hoped he would go on for another year. However, I am glad it is on his terms. I wonder how much influence on his decision the constant negativity from the media has had?

Who are they?

I have a look back over a lot of Ben threads, espcially the early posts. Some of the good ones are in the rumour section and the media section but their are lots in this section to.

If you look at the early posts you can work out who is for and against.

Surely you are taking the *smile* now WT - no one who is not stirring could say that. You could argue about the extent of Cuz's influence on team mates etc but membership numbers are fact.

I'd say you and TOO would be the first two anti-cousins posters. Do you think his drafting has been a sucess in any way?

I'm not anti-Cousins at all. I do question certain comments considering the high pedestal some have him on. I'm looking forward to SCOOP actually answering my questions seeing he chose to respond to my posts to Leysy.

Ben's drafting has been bittersweet imo. Some success and some things we would have been better off without without. Whether his time at Tigerland has some imprint on our future development and success either way I wouldn't have a clue. I question the claims because I think it's the same with almost every player. Did Kane Johnson's premiership experience help us? Or Clay Sampson's? Has Richo left a lasting legacy for our kids coming through? How do all of them compare with Ben's influence? I just don't know how you measure those things. He certainly hasn't helped us rise up the ladder at all. Maybe scoop's answers might help me understand better.

Interesting. Who was the poster? Can you please post a link?
