Bens accumulation of the ball is great, as is his endeavour but as stated he seems handball happy now and I'm guessing it's because his kicking seems to have really deserted him this season.

Came under post match criticism from Hardwick for this very thing tim.

At his best Cousins was a free running, goal kicking mid.
Now he's being compared with a slow Greg Williams. This is not his go.

He's lost his ability to break away from packs and his kicking lacks the penetration it once had.
Still capable of flashes of class as you'd expect but clear to me that the end is nigh.

Wow.

On a day we get monstered around the contest (and yep Jackson would have been a big help) our only clear winner on the day is getting asked his value. Some of his handballs were first rate, telling his team mate where to run.

Again, it is no sure thing in the clubs mind that Cousins plays on (it is in mine, he should) but Ben keeps making it harder and harder for the club to move him on. That is all he can do.

Don't mistake my comment as asking Ben's value. It was just an observation. I am a fan.

Ben gave an honest performance out there today, tried his heart out and was our second best player.
At this stage Ben is not a list clogger and there are many senior players that should go before he does.
Spot on

Still has great value, particularly in a young developing side. He did over handball on a wet day, but was honestly trying to bring others into the play and create opportunity.

As long as he starts to kick more often, he should stay for another year. He's not quick, but he's not as slow as some may believe but he still finds/wins the footy. That's the biggest asset for any player.

I love Benny and am glad we got him BUT timing is everything. He has lost his pace so he can not play forward. He can not play back because he is not tall enough to take a true HF and not fast enough to play on a Milne, Betts etc. do he must play midfield which is actually our strength and where we want to play the young guys so I don't want to take him for one year too many if it blocks a healthy young midfielder from getting center square time.

Well it takes a special player to have a great game and still draw critisism, the issue is more about the attention he brings rather than his actual form (which is very good IMO).

In my eyes he's better value than someone like Tuck, who is a good solid player, but offers little leadership.

You want your senior players providing leadership and steadying the ship.

Ben's one of the classiest players we've had in years, if we were deciding his future purely from his form and leadership, then I think he's earned the extra year. We should really be talking about the attention he draws. After watching him play a very good game, the only way you could critisise him is if you want him gone for reasons other than his form. In which case, it's pointless talking about how good he played.

Easily our best yesterday for leysy. The most contested possessions on the ground.

Thought Cuz & Lids single handedly kept us in the game to half time in a match where so many players had zero influence.

Lids let his game down by not giving his opponent (Adams) enough respect.

Yes Cuz handballs a lot, but he is the best exponent of it in our team. Forever putting teammates in space by hand.

Should he go on, leysy's not sure. Like to see how the last 6 games pan out.

Clear winner? Great game?
Don't think so. He was ok on a dark day for the team but let's be realistic.

Not sure what else he can do make you happy ToO, crazy not to think he wasn't a clear winner.

Did some special things yesterday, the screw kick around the corner to King, the handball to Edwards in the middle of the ground, just held it a second longer to make sure Edwards had time and space when he got it.

Just a smart footballer, something we don't have in spades.

Agree, let the last six weeks decide but right now Ben is doing everything he can to go on in 2011.

Haven't seen the game but mention has been made about Ben's opponent doing well too.  Who was it?

He's a class player, but gee he looked slow. Clearly he will never get that speed back, so maybe he needs shorter bursts on the ground, or longer rests on the bench. The way he is currently playing though, I hope we give him another year.

Interesting quote by Beavis in his interview with Hird about resigning Cousins. Hinted that if the AFL cut back and limit interchanges for a match that it might have a bearing on Cousins future.

In an era of zones & rotations unless players are being tagged midfielders will change opponents dozens of times during a game.

Take a rhodes scholar to know who Ben was assigned throughout the match. Near impossible to answer your question.

Not necessarily for all players. Sometimes you have to watch a particular player fairly closely to work it out. Let me re-phrase. Who was Ben's main opponent for the game? The mentioned a particular opponenet on 3aw when discussing the game but I can't remember who it was.

Yes there are occasional times where midfielders are assigned a particular player throughout a match. Very rare in todays football though.

Cuz would have had short spells on a multitude of players at different stages. He sometimes starts in the middle, sometimes wing, sometimes half forward.

When Richmond setup there zone every time there is an opposition free kick in our forward line or when there is a behind who is each players direct opponent?

They kept saying it was Adams ( I think) but I don't know if that was true.

I'll take that as you don't know the answer Leysy. :rofl

Haven't you heard about rotations Rosy?

Whoever 3AW mentioned proves nothing as Cuz provided a good input for us. Midfielders don't rely on opponents as much as KPs do.
