Never wanted him, don't know him, don't care if he's the biggest snob in the land.

I see a player who's on the way out and am surprised others can't see it.

Fortunately I think the club can.

Yeah see above, missed it on the way through. Fair play to you. I see the writing on the wall but think the next six weeks will tell the tale. And agree he is not the player he once was, still something to give though.

To pot the bloke after his efforts yesterday, just seems really petty and small. Yesterday should be a positive not something that is seen as a further nail in his AFL coffin. The last 4 games BC has played have all been above average and in shape or for has been carried. All this talk of him taking away a spot from a youngster is rubbish. We have no one at Coburg ready, we have a shortage of onballers in fact. And even if we get three or four more onballers next year don't you think a year running around watching and learning what Cousin's does would be a coup. It's not a done deal that he plays in 2011 but yesterday made the choice that much harder.

And the thing is, their is nothing wrong with saying what you think, it's just the pot shots trying to pick holes.

None of that applies to me and none of your past jibes at me about Ben that you've never backed up when asked had any substance either. You said Ben was our only winner and it brought to mind a conversation I heard on 3aw and couldn't remember. I asked a genuine question. No surprise Leysy, JB and momentai chimed in. I didn't comment on Ben's game. I didn't allude to him not being a winner. I didn't criticise him. I didn't give any opinions whatsoever.

Sorry, I must have missed my chiming in post.

Sorry for explaining there isnt a simple answer to your question. Will refrain in future.

Me too.

Although I can see why others might want to retain him, however I reckon the 15 - 20 games he might play next year (if lucky) would be better used pushed into someone who might be here going forward.

Cheers Scoop.

Whatever anyone's opinion on Ben is, it's been a heck of a ride.
He's sure tried hard recently to stay on the list and there's a fair chance it's not over yet but my gut thinks it is.
We'll see in due course.

Rosy Scoop claimed you never wanted Cousins, didnt like him etc.
You challenged Scoop to provide evidence. I simply pointed to your first three posts on this very thread, (14,16 and 41), as evidence that you never wanted him. The fact that these posts were made by you before he became a Tiger doesnt mean that they are not relevant to your challenge. Clearly they are. You seem to have had a prejudice because you believed he was going to be a bad influence. As I see it Scoops observation was entirely fair.

You assumed scoop made those claims about me.  He didn't mention any names. Hilarious you drag up a post from 2006 to make a point.  Keep on with your fairy tales if they make you happy though.

What do you think Soops words 'not just Rosy mean?'

Everyone knows your prejudice when it comes to judging Cousins. And I wasn't on my own in understanding who the reference was to..

And hopefully for the last time if you are going to ask someone to justify an accusation that you 'never wanted Cousins', surely its logical to go back to the start of the thread and see what you were saying when I raised the subject back in 2006.

You have kept up your opposition which is fair enough. Your opinion.. your right to one.

But your denial of prejudice when it comes to judging his play on the field (this weeks effort was a pearler..'someone said his opponent was good who was that'?) and certainly off the field is a joke.

You are the joke momentai.  Full of crap.  :blah

Wow. Regardless, of what I think on Cousins, I know that I wouldn't get away with that sort of reply to you.

Ben.......... to date - has been worth every penny. He pumped up our membership last year immensely & covered his (by todays standards) meagre salary probably several times over. We gave him a lifeline & he has honoured the contract.

He has remained off the illicit stuff & hopefully we are not turning into wowsers whereby a bloke can't have a drink or two. We have not cut him any slack - geez he copped a suspension for not whacking Danny Connors early enough when he was making a fool of himself. That seemed pretty harsh to me. We are all responsible for our own actions - I like Dan a lot & hope he will turn into a great player for us but it is not the responsibility of Ben & others to nursemaid him.

The younger guys are chock full of praise for him & his knowledge. His enjoyment when we win is apparent.

Is he the same player of 5-6 years ago ? No, he's not. Time stands still for no-one. At age 49....after not playing for 25 years...I can't believe it's too late for me to nominate for this years draft & I am consoling myself with a glass of wine as I type (better have another as I am quite upset nowthat I think about it ). He is not as quick off the mark as he used to be & his kicking lacks penetration from what we all expect. I am slightly intrigued as to the lack of distance & wonder if there is a groin issue (speculation only). He still hits the targets pretty well within his range (one notable exception on Sunday notwithstanding).

As I recall he had an interrupted preseason. Doesn't help most players as I recall. He has also been in hospital with stomach problems (not drug related) & then a long sleep (sleeping tablet only) & missed another game. I went to the game of Sunday & thought he was our best player in the 1st quarter - in our best at 1/2 time & overall a good game. He tired as the game went on & the remarks regarding potential changes to rotations could have an impact on his playing on.

I originally thought when we picked him up - 2 years will pull him up. At the moment I am not so sure & he may have another year in him for us & at the moment I am undecided. He has also said publicly that he doesn't want to wear out his welcome with us. At the end of the day - he is still playing better football than anyone below him. And, where I come from - you have to be better than the guy you are replacing to push him out. I think the club is saying the right thing (& hope it is a genuine response) that no decision has been made yet & the call will be made at the end of the year. We have another few games to see out & depending on that - then the club can make the call but not before. I was fairly p-ssed off to listen to Steve Quartermain say on the radio after the game that there was no way that Ben Cousins will be playing next year for Richmond next year - so apparently it's done & dusted & whatever he does from here on won't matter.

Didn't realise that Steve was in charge of list management at Richmond but there you go. Learn something new every day.

I will admit that I did NOT want Ben at the club prior to us taking him, however since seeing the influence he's had around the club, I couldn't have been more wrong. Yes he's slowed, but he still offers so much to a young side. He sacrifices so much of his game to free up the youngsters. He's constantly blocking for them, drawing opponents only to handball to a kid running free of the congestion, always instructing them at stoppages, that stuff you just can't get from a kid in the draft.

I have done a complete 180, he must stay on for next year. I don't care if he is only used as an impact player off the bench like Harvey or Hocking were towards the end of their careers. Even if he only plays Melbourne games and doesn't travel to save his body. It will give the kids more game time but keep that mentoring and leadership around, even just another solid mature body to take the hits.

That being said, I think if the AFL change the interchange rules, he's gone. Would love him to stay on as a development coach, no matter what Gery March says.

Cousins was willing to be drug tested just before he left the Epworth after his last episode.

Has there been any news on the results, have they been published, does anyone know someone who does the testing, does anyone know what drugs they DO NOT test for?

Dunno who does it or what they test for specifically but he is getting tested twice weekly anyway I believe. We porbably would have heard something by now if he had swabbed positive.

He was tested by the AFL same as his previous tests for the past 18 months. He asked for the test to be done on the Tues to stop speculation and to be on the record with the AFL.
Ben is still being treated by an addiction specialist and is on prescription medication. His sleeping medication was changed to an anti anxiety. Which maybe is an indication that with the issues that Ben had before xmas with Ricky Nixon, his book publisher, and other personal issues, his career ending. Maybe he’s not in a good headspace.
As he said OTC interview he battles daily. I hope he has good support around him. He is going to need it in the next few weeks.
No matter how he plays in the next month and who wanted and didn’t want him at the club. He won’t be around next year.
Let’s all wish him well and hope he finds peace and happiness away from football. I hope his demons leave him.

Why would he personally demand to be drug tested if he wasn't clean..?
