Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

The main reason I wouldn't want Cousins at the club is the baggage that comes with him. There would be intense media scrutiny of everything he said and did - on-field and off. The potential for disaster looms large. Nothing personal against the guy, I wish him well for his recovery from addiction. However, I would like to see the RFC stage a recovery using home grown champions and claw back some of our lost respect. Ben Cousins does not fit into that picture.

In terms of a combination of skill and gut busting effort we havn't had a player who could match Cousins for.. ??
We have been entirely lacking in leadership for ?? The opportunity cost of Ben is virtually zip. Please explain your 'picture' and how it relates to the possibility of bringing 90,000 to the G in round 1.

Well said.

I agree that our list can't carry another old timer. He already have a list problem that we could have 5 retirements at the end of 2009. I would try and retire someone this year to spread out the pain, but it appears like we're not going to do that.

Agree. We need less over thirty not more.
I have only considered Jeff White in the ruck out of pure desperation but even thinking about that for a day or two I have gone cold on the idea.
Continue the rebuild not bring in guys well past their best.

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

I was happy to hear the statement "he fits our age bracket" when they were talking about Thomson. For once RFC are looking at players who will help us long term not short term.

By the way did you hear Buckleys take on Cousins momentai?

When are you going to make up your mind?

Bucks has been a touch inconsistent but perhaps not.
On AW a few weeks ago Bucks thought he would be a perfect fit for Collingwood. Since then Cousins presents too much of a risk in terms of a comeback. :-X

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

Can I just add this. My point is that Ben would be a far better bet on our forward line in 09 that Kane. Simple as that.

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

But a few weeks ago you were trying to tell us that you were in favour.
Ditto Jeff White.
Maybe too long in the tropics. ;D

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

No cousins to Tigerland.

No short term fixes.

If you build it, it will come.

i agree but there are circumstances where you would jump at the opportunity to get a cousins cheap. one of those circumstances is if you think your premiership window is open.
the other would be if you had nothing but mostly kids in your onball/mid brigade. to me we are in neither circumstance.

I agree with your sentiment, although I wouldn't agree that you could even call recruiting Cousins a short term fix, more a folly.

White, Cousins, who else over 30 should we get? Over 30 years old, an emphatic NO. With Johnson stayimg and the Tigers picking up Thomson I cant see us being interested anyway. Need some tall timber out of that PSD if possible.

Don't you mean "methamphetic"??

Leadership? Um, no.

Make a case for Cousins if you will, but dont insult anyones intelligence that Ben Cousins represents 'leadership' - except of the General Custer kind.

dont want him. >30, baggage, out of footy a year and a half, media disctraction, dubious charachter. He was a great player once; he isnt worth it now. Let Carlton, Essendon or Collingwood take him on and get distracted ; I'll be happy if we keep our attention on the main game

So you'd prefer a KNOWN drug addict and obvious bad influence over the guy who wears number 17 for us?

What a joke.

And besides, I'd prefer to see Morton, Riewoldt, Hughes, Edwards, White, Connors, Cotchin, Tambling, Deledio, Jackson, so on, so forth, in the forward line over both of them. Surprised you wouldn't either, to be honest.

Hell, I'd prefer to see Pettifer there over Cousins. I do not want Cousins anywhere near this club.
