Re: cousins back to perth

It's been in the press for several weeks that he was unlikely to play.

However I am surprised he won't train in Melbourne to give prospective buyers a look first hand.

Re: cousins back to perth

he's probably already signed a deal with us worth 800k a year for 3 years and we've asked him to go back home to get ready for the Kerr & Cousins reunited at Punt Road press conference.

Why not throw Cox in there as well and we can have a premiership midfield with Foley, Deledio, Tambling, Cotchin learning from the best until they hit their prime in 2-3 years??

Cousins a must for Tigers

Our list situation looks pretty messy at the moment, well still looks that way. Despite the fact that we finished 9th we don't appear to be thinking of more than 3 players in the upcoming national draft. That to me is pretty amazing, especially given the historical significance of this draft and the fact that we have had several non performers on the list for 3 years plus.

Hyde, Pettifer and Tivendale have been released and at least one more will join them. Casserly, King and Oaklie-Nicholls look the most vulnerable, with the existing contractual position of each, likely to determine the issue. I personally wouldn't continue with any of this group, take our medicine and try some others, with maybe JON to be rookied. However we have a culture of keeping non-performers in work which probably won't be a matter that Craig can address over a period of only 3 months.

If Casserly, King and JON survive then Collins, Hughes, Meyer and Raines, may also come under the microscope with existing contracts again a significant issue. Who knows?

A more important structural decision needs to be taken in regard to Kane whom I understand doesn't yet have his contract for 09. Kane was pulled from the midfield midway through last season and went forward doing a very useful 'think about me' job on Hodges in our late season win over the Hawks. However it must be said that his loss of pace last year was such that it was not surprising that the team began to succeed in the midfield after the move forward took place.

Apparently, Brisbane, Essendon, St Kilda and Collingwood remain in the running for Cousins, although it seems likely that Essendon may prefer to focus on stuffing up the Blues on O'keefe.

I've been saying for the past ..... ::) should Cousins get the go ahead from the AFL and decide to enter the PSD, then he would fit our needs beautifully. He could reasonably be expected to provide fellow forwards Connors, White, Morton, Reiwoldt etc, with terrific instruction about position play, training, strategy and leadership which frankly, neither Kane nor Bryan Royal can deliver.

Kane has been a very good player but we couldn't have them both and right now the chance of a few years of Cousins looks much more appealing.

Please consider.

White, Cousins, who else over 30 should we get? Over 30 years old, an emphatic NO. With Johnson stayimg and the Tigers picking up Thomson I cant see us being interested anyway. Need some tall timber out of that PSD if possible.

Although I like the idea of having Cousins around I agree that our list can't carry another old timer. He already have a list problem that we could have 5 retirements at the end of 2009. I would try and retire someone this year to spread out the pain, but it appears like we're not going to do that.

Well said.

We have 3, I repeat 3 national draft selection is pick 8, 26 and 58.

Thats after we delist two more. Which we are yet to do. We will not get any established players. Three young kids will be added to the list.

Thats all and then rookie selections.

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

fair point Colonel.Dont know how much more we will get out of Richo, joel, sugar, and simmo

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

Cousins would be great....he is skilled, delivers the ball, has years of experience and comes from a successful culture....but we are building our own culture and I dont think Cousins fits our needs. Our midfield numbers is increasing and with youth on their side should form a strong midfield-onball unit. I dont think Cousins will enhance our play...its plainly obvious we need some tall hard bodied players to aid Simmo. He needs some serious support and at the moment he is not getting it. Hopefully a few talls fall our way

Re: Cousins a must for Tigers

The main reason I wouldn't want Cousins at the club is the baggage that comes with him. There would be intense media scrutiny of everything he said and did - on-field and off. The potential for disaster looms large. Nothing personal against the guy, I wish him well for his recovery from addiction. However, I would like to see the RFC stage a recovery using home grown champions and claw back some of our lost respect. Ben Cousins does not fit into that picture.
