What a load of codswobble. I hate Collingwood but they don't owe Cousins anything, what they do owe is their supporters to do everything possible to ensure they get a player who won't damage the club. As far as I can see thats exactly what they've done.
My point was that while they have a duty to inform themselves fully about Cousins before deciding whether or not to seek his services, they could have done so without putting the boots in. i.e. without all this crap about speaking to Christine Nixon and then not going ahead. What they did instead was to speak to the press and imply that Cousins maintains friendships with known drug traffickers and that he is therefore not a fit and proper person to be permitted to join the Holy Grail that is Collingwood.

Unnecessary, mean spirited and hypocritical.

It is all smoke and mirrors. They know he stays with a bloke after his return to Aust and that the bloke has now been charged with importing. Christine Nixon who ought to know better raises her eye-brows and holier than though Eddie sighs and pulls the pin, and the rug.

No matter what your views on Cousins may be he doesn't deserve to be hammered.

I heard Ricky "Sourpuss" Nixon on the radio saying that he's happy 1 club (St Kilda) was holding all day talks with Cousins and isn't losing any sleep over the fact Collingwood have pulled out of the race.

Is Nixon the most bitter, opionated, pious, obnoxious weed going around in AFL circles or what?

Maybe not but if thats who Cousins still hangs around with you can bet there will be story upon story upon story about it. Fair enough for Collingwood to want to avoid such publicity.

Perhaps Scumwood believes that if Cousins can't or won't sever his ties with the alleged suppliers that are reputed to have led him to his chemical problems he then has no hope of severing his ties long term with the chemicals.
Scumwood having some private investigators checking on Cuz and having a chat with the plod are absolute no brainers.
For all the talent that Cuz has / had. To be front and centre if he implodes again will have huge ramifications.
Cuz is a ticking time bomb for all the *smile* his manager and a few touchy feelies want to spout about second chances. I hope we don't consider even thinking about him.

As before I hope you are wrong but at this stage I would have to concede that you are likely to have your way.

LOL at the language - as if TM gets to have his way. He gets his wish perhaps but hardly his way.... your honour............. ;) ;D

Go easy pharace. I was just starting to feel all omnipotent and macho being able to influence the recruiting dept from afar and you go and laugh at my prowess. :'(

Why no talk of getting Cousins?

I'm baffled by the club's lack of interest in Cousins, I think he would be a fantastic pick up for the club and would assist in fast tracking some of the kids in the midfield. Even at 30-31, he's still be better than more than half the list. Given where we are at the moment, I really think it's a risk worth taking.

Re: Why no talk of getting Cousins?

Here's some reasons:

Several clubs have had their interest in Cousins cut short by the existing sponsors and we are still trying to woo some new ones. It is proving hard enough without putting another deal-breaker in the way.

He's a 31 year old with dodgy hamstrings. How many more of those do we need?

He is going to be the most scrutinised player in AFL history, literally, he will be accompanied by someone every time he takes a leak. Does any club need that?

He may well help a club win next year's Premiership, if they are good enough to get to the Grand Final. Our club is rebuilding and, realistically, needs to play finals for a couple of seasons before they reach that level.

That's enough for me.

I don't think we'll see Benny advertising for Advance Hair Studios! 8)

Re: Why no talk of getting Cousins?

Who'd want to sponsor us if we recruited Cousins?

I don't think the RFC is the right place for him anyway. They struggle enough as it is and having a reformed addict on the books isn't going to make life easier for the club.
