You need top 5 ND picks to win flags!!!

Carter has been wanting us to bottom out since 2017.

What a pointless thread.

This is the standard whingy nonsense we get every time the Tigers start poorly.

What's even the contention?

Play the kids?
We are.

Train them on a losing game plan?
Good luck undoing that.

Tell the players to lose each contest?
Good luck holding on to our good kids come trade season. And good luck undoing that.

It's just dumb, faux ruthless, manure dumping, microwave melting, histrionics masquerading as objectivity.

'We need to bottom out' is saying 'we need to tank'.

Supporters like to spew it in a tantrum, but it can't be done in a professional environment.

We play to win each week. End of story.

Ryan - 5 games played
Clarke - 6 games played
Sonsie - 9 games played
MRJ - 21 games played
Ralphsmith - 22 games played
Mansell - 20 games played

You don’t need to bottom out to regenerate your playing list.

Carts you do realise Tarranto was taken at pick 2 in draft. You clearly don’t rate him as a match winner but what happens if we bottom out and we pick another Tarranto?

Moral of the story - bottoming out guarantees you diddly squat.
you back yourself in at the draft table. i reckon we've done well with our speculative / creative picks

imagine what we can do with more top end jewels

Jeebuzz.
You will regret these words I reckon.
what's to regret, good players and could well be part of a premiership team with us

if sonsie wins a brownlow over the top

As a counter balance, it's good to maintain reality when it's quoted how many games a young player has played as if they're on their way to playing 200 games.

RFC Career Games

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls 13
Corey Ellis 27
Ben Lennon 21
Riley Collier-Dawkins 11
etc.

Unfortunately there's no guarantees a player gets better just because they've played a handful of games because AFL games of footy aren't guaranteed.

I was focused on those who played last week. Forgot about Young and Cumberland. This adds further strength to my argument that we are rebuilding on the run whilst still trying to contend.

End of the day injuries have hurt us badly. But this has given us an opportunity to fast track our youth.

The sky is not falling.

I am not for bottoming out, but I would trade a couple out that have value, to get back into the top 6 or 7 in the draft. More of a temporary dip for a season or two, not the whole hog bottoming out.

Who are you trading out from us to get pick 6?
Bolton Is properly the only 1 who could get u pick 6.
no fken way.
Given you said pick 6 that just scares me.
Richmond pick 6 Conca or Vickery

Colonwood have supposedly made some cap space. Not sure how when they're still paying out some of Trelol n Grundypants salaries on top of what they've had to pay out on the replacement imports.
Would be more worried about Essendrugs scuttling around the back door for players this year. They've apparently got massive cap room.
Big club n fanbois.
Play marquee Anzac n Dream time type block busters.
New and very experienced coach, with the club suddenly looking very competitive n possibly finals bound this year.
Would be a very tempting proposition for any quality player looking for a career opportunity.

Middling one week, bottoming out the next.

Personally, I don't think we will go for the nuclear rebuild option. I see us trading out a couple experienced role players, Graham, Broad, McIntosh types, back to their home states to get a few more picks in the second/third rounds and clearing out more cap space to target the best available tall forward and/or ruckman through free agency to cover the retirement of Jack.

Bringing in Hopper and Taranto this year lays the foundation of our midfield for the next 4-5 seasons, with Sonsie et al continuing to develop at senior level. Balta, Young and Gibcus will be our talls in defence. The club need to top up our tall forward/ruck stocks for the present, it's the only area of our spine I feel we are missing over the next 3 years.

good post and i am inclined to be swayed by this line of thinking. there are some very good posts on this thread with a similar perspective.

my only fear, and I suppose this is the premise of the thread, is that we are a little gold dust short for the next tilt. of course, gold dust can come from a variety of sources.

in any case, I am only proposing to kiss the bottom of the ladder, not spent an eternity in idiotic gulag like Essendon.

the more I think about our list, the more I believe that Jack Riewoldt cannot be replaced. a player of such smarts, leap, clutch moments, passion - he has/had it all.

lynch has a couple of years left though and I'm hoping Cumberland can rise further to become a legitimate foil up forward. at 183cm he is 12cm shorter than Jack but is still an aerial threat, has footy smarts and more agility.

we'll need a couple of breakout years in 2024 if we are ghosts at this year's ND.
