heat on Germany after 0-1v Mexico....next match v Sweden a TW 'crunch' game....

Brazil 1, Switzerland 1, results aren't going as expected.

Wow, could be a very different world cup this year.

Germany haven't lost their opening game of a world cup since 1982
Brazil have won their opening game every world cup since 1978

Yeah, but it's often the first games where this happens. Regardless though, full credit to Mexico, Argentina and Switzerland. May their fans celebrate like there's no tomorrow

Looks like you guys can get the next 48 hours of WC matches on SBS

The Mexican fans were up and about when they scored against Germany.

Ok soccer boffins. The Colombian handball seemed the same as the French yet Colombian red-carded yet French player did not even receive a yellow.

The only explanation I can give is that the Columbian handball looked like it stopped a certain goal whereas the French handball the ball was going to miss (assuming the skipper wasn’t going to get to it).

It’s a good question as I don’t actually know.

Can’t believe the Columbians have never won a World Cup game before - is that correct?

The French should have received a yellow. Ref made a mistake for not carding him.

The Columbian was red carded because as yott said, he stopped what looked like a certain goal.

Columbia have won plenty of World Cup games. They made the quarter finals 4 years ago.

Moscow is absolutely pumping. so much great vibes last night after the Russian win. and Polish fans are off the Richter scale. thousands of them filling up red square with their singing and chanting. loved them. but the general camaraderie amongst the fans is truly magnificent. haven't yet been here 48 hours but I think going to a world cup should be a bucket list thing for everyone.

Match 2 - Portugal v Morocco tonight. then the big one tomorrow.

I was at the World Cup in 2002 in Korea and I agree, the vibes were great. No hoolganism or anything, just a lot of happy people that were enjoying the atmosphere of being at a world cup.

That’s what I thought so when I heard one of commentators make that comment it sounded strange (or it could have the Pinot I was drinking clogging up me senses)

Enjoy I am envious - Portugal will be a great team to watch.

So optus can't guarantee service so SBS will continue to broadcast all matches. I can't imagine how this happened especially with Optus being an internet company, its simply unbelievable.

It was the first time the Japanese have won a game against a Sth American team in the World Cup. Maybe that was it?

I was also at the 2002 WORLD Cup in Japan. Great time and managed to get (pay through the nose) tickets to the Brazil v Germany final.
