I posted a thread in good faith being fed up with Hardwicks pre-game selections and post-game pressers while losing games we have to win. Is 2017 all just smoke and mirrors? A nice cup of ice cold orange Kool Aid?
I thought I would have a look at where we are in 2017 compared to our two previous best seasons under Hardwick.
We might be playing a better style of football but we will be no better statistically than we were in 2013 and 2015 provided we win the next two games. Lose one of those and our home and away effort is worse.
2017 W 13 L 7 F 1715 A 1552 % 110.5 G 243 B 257
2015 W 15 L 7 F 1930 A 1568 % 123.1 G 280 B 250
2013 W 15 L 7 F 2154 A 1754 % 122.8 G 311 B 288
Do you see our performance this year as better than any other under Hardwick due to our ladder position? Or is it the same ole same ole?

what i see:
hardwick has benefited from a very good, coachable team with AA spine and top mids for eight years.
if we fail to make top four, he needs two finals wins to see out his contract.
if we make the top four, he needs one finals win to see out his contract.
what the club will see:
hardwick has been a loyal servant who has lifted us into multiple finals.
if we fail to make top four, we need to top up at the recruiting table for 2018.
if we make top four, we will extend him for one more year.

I think a team can win less games than any other given season, but still play better. Our game style in 2017 seems different than other years. There are the same stage fright issues, and Hardwick still isn't a great game day coach, but 2017 does to me appear to be a step in the right direction.tommystigers said:

I really don’t see how any reasonable person can ‘agree’ with TD’s arguments. Sure there are some half-truths and grains of truth in there, just like there are in those of Donald trump, and even Kim Jong Un. These black and white views are useless, they do nobody any favours. TD’s view was true once. Back in the days of Spud and Wallet PRE pretty much had a consensus, recruiting and trading was abysmal, and we lost every game that had any sniff of importance, and usually by a big margin. We don’t just recruit duds anymore, we don’t stuff up every draft pick anymore, we don’t never make the 8 anymore, we don’t lose every big game anymore, and following on from all that, our culture has improved. To suggest otherwise is dumbsville. The only side that doesn’t lose some big games, and even they drop the odd one, is the powersides of the day, we are not a powerside yet. We’ve got a ways to go, nobody would dispute that. But everything is buggered? Come off it. Its brainless.

Remember they(Board) were cracking the champagne for "just' making the finals, contract extensions. Making finals at the moment "appears" to be the club's benchmark still. Just how I feel. we have a massive opportunity with a very young list. Bernie has no excuses but when it really counts in big imp clashes constantly gets out coached & drops those games. Can he coach, yes, Can he go another level up in his ability is the bigger question. If he cant can we find someone that can??

Our ladder position is almost a Bradbury. We might be succeeding because others have failed.
It could yet deliver us gold. BUT, we need to win a game in September.
