When will Bernie go !!

We've blooded kids every year. Last year Rioli, Castagna, Moore, Chol.

Kids need to be ready to take the step which has been the issue. Its not he hasn't played kids.

yeah. we played the *smile* out of kids last year, putting aside any issues of flawed gameplan, it was gutsy policy.

wasnt 'the step back to take a step forward' code for

'play heaps of kids who arent ready, and simmer a few more in the 2's'?

jeez, theyve plated up pretty well.

I reckon we can win the flag. Dimma's probably Coach Of the 4/5ths of the year?

If we go deep, or even win the big one, I wonder how many teams will try to build their own mossie fleet. Or find a way to combat them. But opposition move this year was to tag Rance but I haven't seen a successful counter to the mossies yet.

watching the mozzies swarm from the top tier at Metricon was quite something. They come from every direction, as one. Its synchronized ferocity.

like you say, if we do win the flag, small forwards who can tackle will be worth more than ruckmen.

we might be able to swap Steve Morris for Lynch and pick 6.

of course we can win the flag. season is wide open.

the question is whether Bernie will ignore his stifling instincts.

hmmm, the would be a win/win trade I reckon. Fair and can get done first day or two of trades weeks

So, if we don't win the flag, its all Bernie's fault?

Would think there are more questions than simply whether Bernie will ignore his stifling instincts, there are 22 players running around that need to perform for starters, many of whom who have performed poorly in past September campaigns.

Just say we did win the flag.

what sort of extension should we be tabling to stop other clubs poaching our Dimma?

tenure, i wouldve thought, or will think?

I understand that you've tried to cherry pick (as is your want) an old side to make a point, but I must be missing something, that looks like a young side to me.

You do miss a lot Snakey.

The 'cherry picked' sides are the two sides picked straight after Bernie's half step back comment.

Dimma brings in or keeps Hunt, Morris, Hammer, Chaplin, Batchelor, Townsend, Moore who all take spaces which on the "Half step back' scale could go to developing kids, which shows Bernie is at least 4/5ths BS when he says something. All (bar perhaps the resurgent Towner) offered nothing going forward in rd 4 2016.

Finally, fanbois and kool aid drinkers will screech " oh we played the kids " and reel off some token games or cheapo games bestowed on chosen ones like Rioli.

The fact is as Jinxy showed in Hardwick's tenure we got less games into our draft picks and kept less of our draft picks than every other side.

Every teams plays kids. Comparatively we have been the worst under Bernie's watch.

This year marks a huge departure in that we have taken a gamble turning a weakness into a strength and stuck to our guns, apart from Bernie's nostalgia in bringing back Hunt, Morris and Batchelor for a combined total wins of ZERO in those games.

Townsend and Moore are kids. Chaplin is the only pensioner. and Besides, there are plenty of other kids in that side, KMac, Corey, Connor, Danny, you can't play a whole side of kids.

From "Dimma was so brave in 2016 to play kids" to "so what if he didn't play kids, you can't play too many".

:hihi

Look at this list of the undead

Hunt, Morris, Hammer, Chaplin, Batchelor, Townsend, Moore

If you want to know why we play better footy this year, half the answer is that these blokes have not played (when we won).

Look at the ins for rd 4: Hunt and Moore. Two limited players, both journeymen and delisted with years in the system. They are not kids. Neither was Townsend with three years in the system although he didn't get as many opportunities as the other two.

Morris, Batch, Chappy and Hammer. Known qualities, limited footballers and in Chappy's case totally cooked.

Bernie knew he had to change things and mumbled what he was being forced to say but in the end he didn't know how and reverted to what he knew best. Sludge and drones.

He could have tried what was done this year but had neither the inclination or competence.

Short, Castagna, Butler all at the club.

Soldo was very raw - given but as I argued many times Hammer should have ben punted and a more mobile and skilled ruck forward division should have been played. Maybe Callum Moore could have been given a sustained Elton like role in the back half of the year.

However even if Bernie got the personnel right his unwillingness to play more men forward or to move the ball quicker and more direct would have mitigated against the type of development or success we have seen this year.

Sorry I don't get it. Just seems wrong headed to me. We're going well this year because we mini-rebuilt last year. there's more to it of course, but that's the guts of it. Dimma said we needed to take a step back to go forward, that's what we did, and that's what happened. We rolled Shorty, George, Connor, Corey, Danny et al through the side. Kmac and Butler were injured or just back from injury. Some were overnight sensations, most weren't and were in and out, that's the way it goes playing kids. I'm genuinely not sure what your argument is, we should have just played all kids all year regardless of form or any semblance of team balance?
