my only concern is the lack of emergent talent in the 19-23 bracket, Sinners.

rioli and now menadue is heartening.

bolton. short. maybe stengle.

not so bad, where is our weitering? our daniher?

some holes are becoming apparent but these are problems for 2020.

right now, the comp is open and we can challenge.
That is where Balmey has to get to work Baron

In Balmey we trust!

I always have since I saw the long haired no 21 running around and sorting out those Carlton back men.

Let's hope Balmy sorts out our needs better than jumping into the wrong Jeep. :rofl

What a classic, I still watch it and pee my self laughing..it's a classic

Yeah lack of emerging talls is a concern, as is that we have 2 superstars and 2 guns closer to the end than the beginning.

Its no time for measured and constructive backpeddling now

I think the keys to success lay in this thread

The more droning misery, the better we go

It's a non-full-rebuild week this week.

yeah, yeah, but do you disagree with the notion that the list is / has been very good but gaps will rear their heads in 2-3 years?

i'm happy to wait for your response while you assimilate the views of others :hihi

Geeze carts, you really need a new schtick.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at the ages of our best four then factor in the passing of time. The list has been mediocre for most of the past eight years so I disagree with that assertion.

The question is what do we do right now. Unlike you I reckon we go hard for another key position forward and maybe another key mid. The blossoming of our young guys and the crazy evenness of the comp means we have a 2-3 year window and we would be crazy not to go hard. Neither would I trade Dusty as you've suggested in other threads.

Of course, your position changes from week to week so who knows.

it has changed accordingly with the vagaries of each new yearly campaign. as of 2017 we are in a tight window to challenge. we blew chances 2013-15. when jack starts to decline we are in deep sh!t despite our current success. in your lounge room you might think the club exists in a vacuum but the situation is changing rapidly.

oh, and you are naive to think we can go after a decent key position forward and not give anything.

A bunch of strawman arguments claiming I said things I never did, with a nice ad hominem thrown in. Classic Carter.

Yeah but it was fun and probably true :hihi

Not sure where to put this but since it relates to Hardwick the coach I decided to post it here.

I liked what he said post match and I'm so hopeful of us making top 4 and doing some damage in the finals. I like some have been a critic & supporter. He will be judged this year.

This is what he said. Just a snippet.

He believes his side's game-plan, built on the foundation of pressure around the contest and a high tackle count, will survive the finals cauldron.

"It's a different template to what we've had previously so we're really confident it stands up in big games," Hardwick said.

"It's built on the fundaments.

"We've been in every game this year bar one, the Adelaide game (where the Tigers lost by 76 points).

"We challenge the players more and more every week and we love the way they're going about it.

"We've still got a lot of improvement left in us.

"Our best footy, mark my words, is still in front of us."

LTRTR do you have data or stats that show in the finals years of 2013-2015 and this year as it stands 2017 when we are-

Behind vs when we are in front - Win /Loss ratio.

The one thing like maybe so many supporters I'm more confident when trailing 1/2 time then having a 3/4 lead winning.

Like many sides in the 8 , we have scope for improvement-

Goal kicking conversion
Finding the correct formula with our best smalls going forward
Help for Jack
Help for Nank

Sky is the limit.

But we never get ahead of ourselves at Tigerland

Thanks LTRTR

Many said when pressure came he would blink, i don't think he has...

The close games we lost IMO was mostly on the players (esp leaders) being out of position, simple stuff with seconds/minutes to go to save/run out the clock.

During all of Hardwicks tenure many have been critical of our tackling numbers. I have been critical of our goal assist numbers as a measure of our lack of system. In recent years I have been critical of our bounce numbers as an indicator of our lack of run. All this time we have been winning disposal counts, clearances, contested disposal etc.

This year our opponent difference numbers have us ahead on bounces, tackles and score assists as well as inside 50 and marks inside 50. On the other hand we are behind on virtually everything else, except goals and behinds.

I for one did not think Hardwick could turn this around quickly partly because our list management and gameplan favoured F50 stoppages as a main avenue to goal. There were some signs last year with continued selection of Rioli, etc.

It has happened much faster than I thought possible and in the case of Hardwick I was not sure he could adapt at all. I am still not convinced it stands up to ball carrier pressure in the midfield from quality teams, but hell if all we have to worry about is being outplayed by the quality teams that's a massive improvement.

That's a really thoughtful post, Bill.

As we all know, everything is possible, yet a lot will have to go wrong in the remainder of this season for Hardwick to not be coaching RFC in 2018.

disagree. if we doesn't win a final he deserves to go.

One thing I won't do is paint a bleak picture of events that are yet to transpire and then use this as the rational to launch scathing assessments of Dimma.

I will however enjoy each and every victory we have in 2017.

I did enjoy our best win of the season win on Saturday, but I am still happy to launch a scathing assessment of Dimma. I still think this small forward line is unsustainable and will not win finals. some will argue the doggies last year and the tackling and rabid pressure will suit finals, but I disagree. tall forwards win finals.

He can't just make a tall forward out of thin air though!

I would have played Ivan over the past month. yes I know he's not really suitable for the role but all he needs to do is provide a target and help bring the ball to ground. he can also provide a chop out to the nank.

His criteria is to win a final this year. if Dusty aint around next year it is high on the cards Tigers will not make the finals.
