When will Bernie go !!

everyone thought we were bottom 4. were not. were in and about top 4.

thats factual
So far. We are still only two games off bottom 4 even though we are "in and about" top 4.

My gut feel is that this weeks game against the scum will be the season defining one for us. Win and we will launch a run into the finals. Lose and we will begin a drop to an end of season doomsday.

Hardwick needs to get creative with what he has at his disposal. Creativity & risk are not his strong suit as a coach.

Not Floss.

I'd probably look at moving Riewoldt out to CHF and trying Lennon out of the square.
I'm not a huge fan of Ben's but there's no doubt he can sniff a goal, is a good kick at the sticks & a reasonable overhead mark.
Another option is moving Astbury forward with Garthwaite & Vlastuin to go back into defence.
If don't want to mess with Astbury from defence & Lennon doesn't work I'd go to Chol to create a contest.
Mabs needs senior exposure at some stage. No point having a tall floundering in reserves with a desperate need for a 2nd tall fwd.
Just needs to create a contest.

Only time would tell if any of the above would be successful but they have to try something.
For me its Maric. The forgotten man.

He will provide a contest. He will straighten us up.

Will also provide the ruck relief for Nank.

Experience and football smarts are what we need now. The next few weeks is probably the toughest in a year of footy. Bodies are getting tired and sore especially the young blokes. Nank must be feeling it. We need him right for the pointy end of the year.

I agree a loss this week will be really, really, really bad.

but we havnt been in the bottom 4 all year tommy.

we havnt left the 8.

were a top 8 side all year and a top 4 side for half of it.

someone tell me, without dwelling on how we could have won a flag in 1911, how thats not pretty good?

I'm usually optimistic, but the other day some low-life on here posted something about the Wallace years that caused me to look up some history from 2005. Coming into round 13 of that year we were in 5th spot with 7 wins and 5 losses.

i said weve been in and about the top 4.

weve spent half this season in the top 4. right now, were out of it on %.

so, yeah. thats factual.

blokes are entitled to take a dogmatic, negative angle.

The fact of the matter is were going pretty good in 2017, and way beyond just about everyones expectations

the really strange thing is, after a win, everybody goes 'Yay, were pretty good' and after a loss, its 'boo, we are sh!t'

it reminds me of monday morning footy banter when i was in grade 1.

Grade 1 is duffel coats and blind, goofy faith.

Reminds me of many on here.

Like when we were constantly being told how super dooper wonderful Liam was?

we might have to swap recipes or knitting patterns in here for the next month or so I reckon.

I think we'll win the next 5 and the loss junkies will go to ground.

Sopa de Pollo

fry 2 onions and a kilo of chicken thigh fillet, fat on.
add some cummin, chilli, garlic, coriander seed and pepper.
throw in a couple of diced carrots and the kernels of two cobs of corn.
add 2 cups good chicken stock and a litre of water.
salt to taste.

serve with chopped coriander and tortillas.

We have lost 8 of our past 34 games by 10 points or less.

You'd think we'd know what we should be doing in tight situations given we've had so much practice at them but despite what Hardwick says it appears we still haven't learnt a thing.

I think your excellent analysis beautifully reveals the extent of Dimmas dilemma.

Cheers AT,. It's far from an ideal situation obviosuly and there's got to be an element of rolling the dice to it.
Alternative is we keep doing the same thing. As hardwick said that may be the best option but unless we try alternatives we won't find out.

I dunno about Ivan. I think he's cooked.

During the same period, we have also won 9 by less than 20 points. Our record in close games is not that bad, most of those games have been super-tight before we kick the sealer and often one more.

This tells me we should be trying to not play so many close games.

Yeah sorry about the grumpy comment, I actually don't mind goofy optimism most of the time :hihi

Look, we know what we're doing wrong. Credit where credits due, we WILL learn from this.

Nice, easy.

Reminiscent of the what's cooking with Tom Bosley era on PRE.

I'm so over hardwick.
Did he say anything at all that made any sense?
We are learning

Ok - the 8 is nearly half the comp -
A high percentage anyway. Really an 8 is pretty big

To simply be happy about being there, exemplifies the low expectations borne into many - most - of
our supporters.
It is better than being outside the 8, that is about it. All that really matters is what we do in September

Were stuck in limbo with Dimma
We'll never quite be that great, and we'll never quite be that bad
About middle table, sometimes high middle, sometimes low middle, but always around the middle

It's just the way it is a tiger land. Some good wins, some bad lossses, as long were not winning wooden spoons, all will be seeet.

Ther's just no mongrel in the club, Hardwick had it as a player but for whatever ever reason has lost it as a coach. Maybe he's to busy being everyones mate?

There's no mongrel in the head office, Gale Peggy and co are as weak as a shandy i used to get as a kid.

Worst of all there's no mongrel in the players, there all great upstanding citizens and ripper blokes who did well on the psyhc tests but thats it.

Balme has it but he's one man

The culture from top to bottom sucks and it has for 30 years and im afraid it might continue for another 30

I've always said we need more grunt in this club. c

I couldn't be bothered going over it all AGAIN.

We keep recruiting Houli's and Grigg's and draft Ellis's too blah blah blah.

Next year will be 38 years of the same ol' crap and my bet is we still won't have a tough team capable of handling the pressure cooker of finals football.

One thing we will have is a team of solid citizens and lots of warm n fuzzy supporters who think its all fine and dandy.

Unfortunately you are quite correct. Maybe a thread should probably be created as to "How to fix RFC". You said that the culture sucks, and most of Melbourne would agree. All is PC and no mongrel as you say. Benny and Peggy have to understand this and make decent decisions to support the footy department and work towards a premiership.
