Welcome Tom Brown

Vlastuin was fearless from day one.

He took a mark with the flight against the West coast in perth in his first (second?) season that set the tone for his career. Yes he may have needed to develop physically to do better in the contest but he he has always been one of the most courageous tigers I've ever seen play.

Exactly.

To play that role at Nicks level, Brown will need to develop the confidence, courage and hardness to do that. The other skill is reading both the play and the ball drop.

Vlastuin is elite at being where the ball is going, then being unflinching to get it. Brown seems OK at it, but plenty of room to improve and thats fine at his age.

Won't be easy for him to get to that level. Nick is a champion after all.

More likely is your next level down like a Broad, Mason Redman or Nick Haynes. All would be exceptional results if he could manage to get to.

Certainly the types to learn his craft from. Grimes as well, who he's more similar physically to.

Worst thing about Vlas is no AA's on his resume. A disgrace. DBJ/Luke Ryan/Caleb Daniel/Adam Saad/Daniel Rich/Bailey Dale/Brad Sheppard/Sam Docherty/Michael Hibberd.........none can hold a candle to him.

FFS selectors.

I suppose Nick will have to make do with 3 flags...

You mention Dan. Interesting to see that Mini moved him forward against P Ad, probably to make room for our two new guys.
I thought he would take the opportunity to leave him out altogether, given the injuries he was already carrying. Hope he is not too badly banged up?

With Short there and likely to stay, and the others, maybe Dan with be pencilled in to play midfield next year. We badly need some more pace and skill there and he certainly brings that.
Strong point, M. My son and I were just discussing this recently. Move DRioli into the midfield in '24. Some of our current mids are a bit one-paced - TT, Hopper, Prestia - so Dan's breakaway speed, love of a run and sharp. long kicking would really add to the mix along with Shai and Dusty.

A move that has to be trialed.

Hopefully the kid walk let alone run.
He needs to let his ankle heal.
I cannot believe they kept playing him over a month of hobbling

In the first half his delivery by foot is exactly what we have been lacking since chaos was declared dead. It was laser like.
Yep. Got a fair bit dodgy in the last qtr. I'll put that down to pressure of the big day, fatigue and inexperience all finally catching up to him. One of a bunch of kids that need to smack out a big pre season and claim their spot in the side for 2024.

Dunno what all the fuss is over Tom Brown's competitiveness at the moment.
All players who make a career at AFL level grow and build their physical competitiveness over their first few years as their bodies develop. Some players, if they're fortunate enough ( or play flank / wing ) have the capacity to see the game unfold just that half second earlier than others and get to where they need to be without having to actually compete 90 % of the time. Their value then comes from being in time and space and using really well. The other 10% of the time they usually manage to make do n get by with the competing stuff.
Lurking intercept distributor off the back half is a very highly prized commodity in today's game. Spewart, Lever, Docherty, Houli, etc they don't need to be the hardest, toughest competitors but they always seem to be in the right place to intercept or receive n create.

Tom Brown is my number 1 off-season/pre-season watch, I am expecting big things, I have watched Tom have two injury interrupted off-seasons, he also had a 10 week Syndesmosis injury in his draft year, to make matters worse he was another one of our players to have a set-back from initial diagnosis and treatment this year whereby his wrist didn't heal and had to go in for surgery, (his first VFL game was not till round 11 this year).
**The only slight benefit being the wrist was that he was able to put in a pretty big block of running where endurance was a weakness, would have been restricted with weights however.

His old man said when Tom phoned him on his debut, "you've had a bit of bad luck buddy but now you're there, just go and play mate"

Let's hope we see some benefits of Tom tackling the pre and off seasons injury free🤞

PS. of course Gibcus and Lynch will be high on my watch list too ;)

The 5 superhunks, plus Young, Trezise and Dow should all band together and commit to a superhuman pre season effort.
The clubs fortunes rely on these young players to start taking responsibility and filling holes on the senior list.
I’ve seen first hand the impact that a young Alex Rance and Steve Morris had on the training track and the standards that were raised. They dragged everyone along with them and I’ve no doubt that the next generation can do the same if they want it bad enough

Odd game… unless he had a specific role that the lay observer couldn’t id

He'll have to break Leysy's Competitiveness > Skills rule to make it.

He'll at least need to greatly raise how hard he competes.

It's always been a weakness, he has all the other tools if he can lift that area of his game. It's not there yet though.

agree with the whacks but I can see why the coaches are bullish

there was a moment when he attacked it at full pelt and I was surprised it was him - Q3 I think. it was super clean and impressive

persist for now I reckon

I didn’t think he was that bad. Yeah. Couple of bad kicks, couple of lost contests, but he was in the play enough down back and got to some good receive spots.

Will be better for the run, and we should be pumping those runs into him.

Miles off it and my gut says goes out for Vlaustin next week.

Top 20 pick as a back flanker, I’m hoping for much more than I’m seeing.
