Welcome Tom Brown

Agree. In racing parlance he will be better for the run, in fact the whole team will be too. There is a lot to like about young Browny.

If a 2yo maiden doesnt like other horse outside it, and baulks at going between, around, or inside other horses,

You start looking for a young girl with a paddock who wants a horse

Or you change trainers, educate, persist,

And probably end up with a 5yo maiden

He might only be a one gamer veteren but he’s also going on three years in the system. It’s not unreasonable to expect more.

Outside of Gibcus, the class of 21’ continues to underwhelm.

He has played 1 AFL game. Some harsh critics here.
Same draft as Godcus, who has missed a whole season and is a tall key position player who usually take time to develop.
It’s not unreasonable to expect more from Brown

Yeah that class was supposed to be our bridge between generations. Sonsie is clear second behind Gibcus now. I'm desperately hoping that Sonsie makes the leap this year and it looks positive. But Brown worries me. I'm sure he will go back to the VFL when Vlastuin comes back but one thing I learnt from Dimma and do believe that is if you play too much VFL football you become a VFL footballer. I want to see Banks on a wing over McIntosh next. Play the kids.

Happy to see the club invest 15+ games in him this year. Hopefully he continues to improve and adjusts to the level and plays 22.

Not unreasonable to expect more. Might be unreasonable to expect a polished veteran.
Brown has missed a lot of time due to injury etc. Can't improve your skills and execution if you can't play.
I'd be hoping he plays more than 15 games this year, barring injury.

Not all development is linear.

I'm looking at what his strengths are.
He looks a good alround footballer. He seems reasonable at what he does, but his speed, kicking and overhead marking are all good not great at this stage.
And a uestion mark on his drive to compete, desperation desire.
Does he have a standout characteristic?

Not fast
Doesn't intercept
Apprantly a good kick missed a basic drop punt from 45
I don't see why he went top 20.
If he was pick 54, you would go, yeah he does his best.
Compare him to Holmes at Geelong.
1 top 20 pick to other

Has the one weapon which we lack.Skill by foot.
Play and play through him.Give him the ball as much as possible.

He's got the physique of an AFL player now & clearly he's put in the work in the gym.
He's also got a beautiful kick.

Does he have the ticker for it?

Vlastuin, Grimes, Broad, Houli, Baker..

These guys are tough as teak with heart's like pharlap. That's Browny's challenge to get to.
It's not an easy one.

none of those bloke went to ticker school.

you can't learn it.

its like contested marking.

you've got it, or you aint.

im a glass half full man; when I see glaring shortcomings, I look for the glaring tallcomings that will compensate.

but I need a welding mask to examine the shortcomings and a microscope to examine the tallcomings

I hate doing this, but im gonna declare a bust.

and at the pick, it is a genuine bust imo.

it happens, and its not his fault.

obviously I hope im wrong and this gets quoted back at me when he wins the norm smith playing his 300th.

but he appears to me to have most of my least liked traits in a footballer.

sorry, I broke all my rules and didn't enjoy that.

Tis true. Ticker was evident in all those guys from the very start.

Hello James Trezise..

Hello James Trezise..

bakes, steely green. clearly got ticker from the outset.

lack of ticker could be compensated,

fast legged or minded, elite decision maker, have no regard for your safety, are huge, have mitts like stewy lowe, have a knack for being in the game when its needs winning, always seem to be in the right spot, have time, have incredible endurance, massive workrate, are a cultural VIP, class, mover, your dad won a norm smith, your brother is a star at another club, etc etc etc

I know its early,

but can someone point out the glimpsed counterbalance?

At this stage Tresize is miles ahead in almost all facets. In saying that there is only one way to improve and see if he will cut it in the AFL. More than happy to have him play all year to either fast track development or getting a clearer picture of where he is at.
Forget the W/L column this year. We need to use it as a development year

Perhaps its lack of confidence, not ticker at all. He’s missed a lot of footy with injury. It’s pre season. It’s a new coaching team & game plan. He’s played 1 game. 🤦🏻

The player you don’t mention who has been queried in the past for lack of ticker is Jayden Short.
Is that Browns best comparative?
Short won a B&F in a Premiership year so it’s a lofty standard.
Brown’s bio sold us an athletic Vlastuin type interceptor.
I’m throwing my hat in the ring and agreeing with EzYt. He looks a bust to me but perhaps they can develop him into a link man
