Welcome Tom Brown

A GWS player was on the ground with the ball and Brown was standing next to him on the far wing and the GWS player got up with the ball and ran off without Brown laying a glove on him. It was a pathetic effort.

Another failed first round pick. We will regret not picking Van Rooyen over him for the next 12 years
Sounds like u will be banging your head over this for the next 12 yrs but no one else including the club will give a stuff.

I wonder if other clubs will regret not picking Sonsie over players they drafted before him? Well I don’t think they will give a stuff either.

Clearly we valued Footskills over anything else in 21 apart from the need for a KP.Oh look who we took with our 1st pick.
Someone with elite footskills could even make Vickery look like Lynch.

I imagine if we'd picked JVR and put him in our forwardline right now, with our delivery into 50, you'd all be saying he was a dud pick because he can't get the ball.
The other thing about this is that everyone is assuming this guy will be a success. Jury is out on that one as well.

Brown? Hoping is probably the better word. (I assume you are talking about Brown, on the Brown thread- and not someone who went pick 20odd, and was passed over by one the supposed best recruiters in the land, who currently has a 45yo playing FF, the pick after us?)

Leysy wasn't convinced on JVR at the time, but the jury is in. He is a serious talent and perfect for what we need(ed).

There was a lot of whinging on here because we didn't take a key forward in the mid-season draft. Not worried about that because the chances of getting a talent to help us in that area is very low.

Yes hindsight for some (not all) but we *smile* the JVR/Brown pick up. That is the one we had a great chance to help fix our forward line, and that will hurt for many years.

Hopefully the club reviews the logic behind the decision making at the time, to alleviate making the same mistake in the future.

As this is the Tom Brown, i wont engage in discussion about other players, but guys getting picked up around pick 20 arent certainties (especially if they are tall forwards) or they would go earlier.

Unfortunately Brown hasnt had the chance to show what he is capable of yet, while some others selected around him have certainly made good starts to their careers. But i dont think many have guaranteed themselves long careers just yet.

Not sure on that Brodders.

There are currently some very good young talls whom were all picked in the 20's.

Oscar Allen - Pick 21
Noah Balta - Pick 25
Sam Taylor - Pick 28

Im not saying they cant turn out to be great- my point is there are question marks, otherwise they would go earlier- we picked CCJ before Balta, while GWS picked Bonnar before Taylor. Tho admittedly more and more top 20-30 picks are turning into successes.

This won’t be popular but I expect a pick 17 to come in after injury and have more than 5 disposals. Sure he’s missed match conditioning but he’s been able to run and work on the game plan side of things, like running patterns and defensive positioning. He’s already had a full year at the club in 2022 and produced only glimpses in the VFL.
Along comes Cool Magool coming from 3 games in total last year due to injuries and 6 games this year in the SANFL, ( 3 in the reserves ) still hasn’t unpacked his bags, and picks up a handy 14 disposals
I’m calling him Mr Slow Burns at best and a bust if things don’t change by the end of the season

He had 9 and was praised by the coach for his defensive work. Worked his way into the game and had a pretty good last quarter.
What was expected of someone having his first game for a long time.
