Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

I'm stumped, Baz. Are there only a few of us who like him? I think his form is ok, BTW. Not good but acceptable for the role. They have good weeks and average weeks. Although I think he can change his own fortunes by lifting defensively. If he's dropped it'll be for lack of defensive urgency. I don't think he will be. I believe we want him to attack the ball and maybe even open with a cheapie to get his dander up.

A few more notes on George:

He's a different athlete/specimen to others in our growing mosquito fleet. For a start he hits the contest much harder. Because he's just as quick and bigger. And he has these rips, not turns, rips in the air and at ground level. He is explosive. And punches above his weight. He doesn't fully know that yet.

He isn't mature. Young for his football years. He's not a complete player and at times he still gets lost. I wouldn't be writing him off. Has huge upside. I think this guy's the future.

me too mate. nice summary.

One of the reasons we have had a good start to the yr. Yes has been a bit subdued lately but really needs to stay in the team and work hard on applying that f50 defensive pressure. Goals will come as a result.

I've calmed down from his last game, he needs to slow down and get some composure when he has the ball.

In the last two minutes we are down by 5 point.
Cotchin marks it, gets it to someone who kicks to castagna who COULD HAVE gone inside to GRIGG unmarked just forward of centre on his own and he had room to launch.

George should be dropped and asked to improve his game at Coburg.

LLoyd has been screwed this year

I think the small forward plan has been found out and defences are already countering it, no doubt train tracks Dimma will flog the smame plan all year, even when it stops working, it will be something to do with good sides, our process not being followed and not playing how we want to.
The real reason will be no plan B, if they wake up and if one of them goes, it should be Castagna. Butler and Rioli offer more, I would be bringing in Lennon as a leading forward.

The above post is what I've been saying all week Lennon should be in this week

I reckon georgey vindicates his selection with 3 bursting goals.

tough roll to be consistent in the small fwd.

Relocated from the Butler thread.

Castagna will be found out, imo he is a fumbler, lacks poise and skill and is a poor decision maker.

In all reality he hasn't done enough in recent weeks to still warrant his place in the side imo since his game v Lions and cost the Tigers some critical direct attacks on goal with crap disposal and poor decision making last week.

his 2017 numbers are pretty good for a small forward. 13 disp, 4 tackles and a goal a game. plus the immeasurable chaos.

I dont get the george angst

No angst from me, just expressing my opinion on what I've seen. It's a critique.

Delve a little deeper.
7 effective disposals a game at 82% game time.
4 goals against Brisbane, good effort against lowly opposition skews the average of a goal a game.
Obviously people see different things. But to me his form has dropped off, he costs us scoring opportunities with poor decision making and disposal.
He needs to improve. I hope he does, but I still think he's very limited.

I love the way George goes about it, but I feel that he should have gone back to the VFL to get some touch back.

However, I hope he has a ripper of a game tomorrow. He's due a big one.

he's not just playing a small forward role, he's stepping up into the lids/lennon role of leadup forward.
Defensively he hits fast and hard, but last week johannisen ran riot. schooled the kid in the second half.

that the norm smith medallist is all over a rookie in his 12 game is not important. but come the end of the year it is.
george has to learn, he has 15 matches.
he's not there to be pretty or to have rioli class. best comparison is picken at the dogs - dogged, competitive and bringing the heat

Enjoying the clear lens you bring to the table fella. I haven't watched many games this year so interesting to read this perspective.

On an unrelated matter, could either Dan or George roll through the midfield?
