Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Like a shorter Luke McGuane.
Been saying it for years but Chaos George would be one of the least skilled players in the competition. A triple premiership player with no trade value.
He played a good role for us when our game was built on pressure & maniacal ball movement but his unpredictability & weak skill level has made him redundant in the current format. Been obvious for 2 seasons. Stop picking him Damien FFS.

It's that much of a doozy that I had to also post it here as well as the game day thread.

You couldn't miss this again if you had another 100 attempts. He kicks this and we go up by 24 points, game over!!!

I was expecting the kick to go out of bounds. So surprised he was able to kick it into the man .
Castanga fans would take that as a win

The ship has sailed even for me on George.
That 2nd qtr when he had countless opportunities to kick a goal and he knew (not the people watching) he was deadset going to miss them, had me fked.
how can you cringed when your player has the ball 14meters out?
has no basic football skill.
Can't handball, can't kick, marks ok, very ordinary decision maker.
But he was kept while others were asked to depart.

I’m still lost for words as to how this happened.….. pathetic really
It’s because Castagna is so unsure of his own kicking for goal that he wanted to run in as close as possible even though he could’ve kicked it from where he was in this picture.

Nope, George kicks the goal we are 23 points up with three minutes left. That’s the game right there.

Nothing after that matters.
Apologies I thought they happened in the other order. I castanga corrected.

That's why he shouldn't be playing. As a player who has to take all of his limited opportunities, he simply cannot execute. His goal kicking "routine" demonstrates a lack of confidence.

The guys VFL form has not even been good it is mind boggling how he keeps getting a game. He has played maybe one and a half good seasons and keeps getting a contract reminds me of How Nick daffy kept getting big contract even though he really only played a couple of good seasons

Don't compare Daffy to George
Daffy in 1 or 2years was rated best half forward in the game.
And there were some quality players Like Heady, Allison, Farmer, Mercui, liptak.

That’s the real frustration - it seemed like they (Coach and MC) had made the hard call (for them) when they finally dropped him a few weeks ago.
At last some common sense and an apparent acknowledgement that others deserved a chance.

It looked like a turning point - and I can imagine that some of those younger blokes would have felt a bit more energised about their own prospects.

So a couple of weeks later and after a couple of injuries (and despite an underwhelming VFL game against Geelong) the old gut instinct kicked in and they pick him again. Just so incredibly short sighted.

Spot on. And he simply had to either baulk or handpass or dribble kick under the smother.

He would have dodged that smother in past years. He would have kicked a banana instead of left foot snap on that shot from the pocket. He is completely bereft of confidence.

On a couple of occasions today his lead up for a set shot on goal included walking with his back to goals, and then only glancing back towards the goal for a split second before quickly turning around and snapping for goal like he was performing some sort of party trick.

It’s as if he didn’t want to spend too much time looking at the goals in fear of freaking out.

This is not the behaviour of someone that has a grip on what they are doing.

I don’t want to disrespect him; I just want him gone.
The question I ask is why hasn't this goal kicking approach routine been addressed at training. Where are the set drills at training for a forward to get rid of the yips. Why hasn't Jack done some routine practice with him etc. Poor coaching, poor leadership, poor development, poor discipline etc. The coaching, standards, leadership and development has been *smile* poor the last 2 years at Tigerland and a review is needed. We have slipped in all departments badly. This starts from the football team above. Pathetic standards not being addressed and we once were clear leaders in this. Debacle!

It’s been obvious for years. When I critiqued his games, his supporters howled me down.
The “chaos king” yeah so dumb a player and so unskillful his teammates cringe
“brings pressure” only on his own team with misses, turnovers,
“integral to the game plan” haha, in other words, we don’t what his game is about
“3 time premiership player” the luckiest ever.
“Good overhead mark” except he’s not. Jumps over everyone, spoils teammates in a better position to try to mark on his chest sideways
”strong, runs hard” because he can’t read the play and *smile* up most chains of play
”it’s not about how many disposals he gets” in other words he’s usually where the ball ain’t. When he is, he generally *smile* it up
”no other player can close the opposition exits” haha. Someone forgot to tell him his role.
etc etc.

How the *smile* can he kick a goal from 30m out when he’s looking at our backline. ?
How the *smile* can he kick 25m straight up, sideways and backwards under no pressure?
How can he miss running in at the top of the square.?
How often does he fly for marks against our key forwards. Leaving no crumbers.?
How often does he miss a 3m handball by 5m ?
How often does he miss a 25m kick by 5m ?

AND he has never improved since being drafted.
“Coulda won a NS if he kicked straight”. It was never gonna happen.
“Integral to our 3 premierships” . No he wasn’t. If we played with 17 men we would’ve still won the first 2. Any other player on the list missed out.
