Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Dropped a few sitters last night and had a form correction but he is worth the investment. The only knock on Stengle according to draft people I spoke to is his height, providing he is up to the jump in class I think he could be the best rookie gem since Nathan Foley.

Surely we knew his height when we drafted him?

To be honest imo i think he is a bit overated by many on here, i admit to being against the grain a little when it comes to George.

I think he lacks skill, poise and makes poor decisions, gets caught a lot with the footy and turns it over a lot with skill errors.

Cost the Tigers 3 direct attacks on goal last night with skill errors.

That's probably why he wasn't taken in the main draft.

The kid has guts, cracks in, has speed and has a red hot go but i don't know if hes got enough to be a consistent reliable performer especially at the senior level.

He could very well find himself out of the side if he has another game like last night.

My thoughts as well. I just don't get the over abundance of love.
As Craig said, and add in very little awareness. I'm not bagging him and hope he improves, he has something, mainly raw pace, but very little of what Cap'n Blood would call a "good ordinary footballer" . He's got a fair way to go, but as a rookie my expectations aren't that high.

George is explosive but inconsistent. Often he's a natural. Other times he's dumb. He's all fast twitch. Even his brain. Then he stops and doesn't get going again.

He's not mature yet but he's got a lot of upside. I hope he keeps his spot.

His defensive running is crucial. He has to do more of it when he's not getting it. He'll get there. Might take all year.

Enjoying the George porn Captain B.

Two years ago we knew he had a quick mind, could dance like Astaire and simply loved gettin' busy.

Now, as you say, there's solidity about him.

Let's talk about Leppa. Has he lit a fire of inspiration under George, Jeeves and Rioli or what?

This is manic footy. Positive footy that rewards skill and enterprise. Love our forward line at the moment.

At the VFL I always loved watching McBean and George because they just seemed so intelligent, so quick-minded with ball in hand.

One's gone, me other lad remains. I couldn't be more rapt for the boy.

He just has a few confidence issues, Baron. He'll definitely go on with it IMO.

Why do you single out Leppa with the small forwards, BS? I'd have definitely looked in McRae's direction on Butts and George. But Leppa was probably working with them last year. You might be right. I dunno.

Anyway, good times.

Just have to remember his age people. Has plenty of upside.

Is a good kick, normally is a good mark, is quick and explosive and puts a lot of defensive pressure on.

Full of potential this kid. One average game doesn't make a player.

yeah McCrae has been massive. I was thinking that Leppa, at least in the last off-season, seems to have given the three amigos full licence to thrill. as long as they chase and tackle like maniacs.

these two coaches are quality one feels.

Glad I'm not on my Pat Malone. It aint what you do its the way that you do it, that includes stuffing up ;D. So attacking.

Well the restructure of the development model means line coaches work together on players in their lines at both VFL and AFL level. The bonus is that Macrae and Leppa are good mates back from Lions glory days. If you have two switched on blokes who very both top players working together you can get good results and consistency acroos both teams.

I saw most of the VFL game and it was a joy to watch. Players were different from the firsts but the game style the same. What a change from 12 months ago where early on the VFL team was horrible to watch.

Macrae wasn't coaching. X was given the gig but Macrae still went around talking to the lines and supporting. BTW does anyone know who was VFL line coach on Thursday for mids in Clarke's place. Seemed very impressive as he went through a teaching lesson for Kmac in what his role was at 1/4 time.

Fella with black hair & short black beard / stubble ?, probably Ben Waite who played in the backline for us first year in VFL ,coached Canberra in NEAFL last year, he is our Mids / stoppage coach, other new coach is Tom Hunter looking after forwards

Castagna had 8 possessions, 2 tackles and no goals. His foot skills were pretty poor again. Very minimal impact on the contest.
Just saying.

Geez give him a break. He's 20 years old and played just 7 games. Comparing to Hunt who's a club reject and been in the system for many years. Castagna's not over the line, no doubt he has a lot of work to do and improvement to make but he's young and will be inconsistent. Rioli managed disposal counts of 6,7,7,9 in the first few handful of games he played as well.

Thanks Taz. That's him.
