Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

Jason looks the most likely but are they hesitating over Soldo. Sure Nank is firing on all cylinders, but Hampson is already down with a back injury and Griffiths has hurt a calf plus never too hardy. Is EEvan really still up to competing with a top young, aerobic ruckman the likes of Kreuzer/Phillips/Grundy/Cox if, dare I say it, Nank has to miss some games? Has he got the pace any more?

Soldo has shown signs, and maybe needs promotion now to actually develop and take the next step.
I can't see why we would promote Soldo when we have Nankervis, Hanson, Maric, Griff and even Chol who could all fill a ruck role if needed

fill me in
can we play both butler and George rnd 1??..or are they both still rookies?
god almighty id have both of them in if possible..

Butler has never been a rookie, he can play... as it stands now castagna can't

Thought I already gave the rationale. Two of those named already injured at present. Maric very slow now. Chol is nowhere near able to compete in any other capacity than a pinch-hitter at present. Soldo did well in intraclub against all our seasoned rucks that played.

So if Nank cops a 3/4 week injury in final JLT, who is No.1 ruck and back-up against Carlscum, assuming H and G don't come up either?

Maric. Right. Good luck with that.

Lambert is M7/HFF. He plays the same position as Josh Caddy. And Shane Edwards. And now Daniel Rioli.

So he couldn't possibly get a game in that position. I reckon he'll be on the bench.

What we can agree on is that he's in a group competing for those small forward/change mid slots. With George.

I'm with jack on this

I reckon dimma will pick his love child lambert ahead of cantstandya. Its true to form and it makes me sick .

surely then george is the obvious choice...id be livid if he isnt playing round one...

his form has been excelent...way ahead of lambert ellis hunt conca even edwards

Castagna is 3... maybe 4 levels below Edwards

Castagna must get promoted and be played along with Butler

I want to see the following players played and developed asap, Even if it means that we win less games this year

Castagna , Butler , Markov , Menadue , Rioli , McIntosh , Short

There wont be many teams with this sort of speed and desperation, It will be manic

Sure, you and many of us, might want that. But the coach has his head poised above the block. So he will be pushing hard for experienced players he believes he can rely on. Some of the youngsters are near definites - Rioli , McIntosh , Short (hopefully) - but the first three may not be regarded as hardened enough yet. Hunt is more likely to go out for Houli or Short if fit than Castagna or Butler because they have been playing them as forwards, not backs. A more experienced, mature and hardened player - Lloyd - kicked 3 from the wing last JLT.

Menadue and Markov hopefully have a great future but Dimma is coaching to have one at all. If his year goes pear-shaped early again, I expect he will be instructed to follow your advice.

Surely even Dimma can recognize that his strong bodied foot soldiers failed him last year.

They sure did.

With the upgrades in midfield of Caddy and Prestia, and the return of KMac/Houli, hopefully we'll be much less dependent on these guys. I'm happy for Dimma to play one or two for experience and to harden the side up while the younger guys develop, but they should really be for depth only as the season goes on.

You must know that injuries, especially to defenders, forced his hand last year. I cited Lloyd in reference to the young players named in the post I was responding to.

You don't think Lloyd has more score on the board yet that Castagna or Butler? I have backed these latter two all along, but Sammy is a couple of years ahead in development and is improving further - can run in the midfield more now. I think Georgie and Butts will get game time this year, whether Rd.1 or not, but they will be the equal or better of Sam in another couple of years. They both have more pace; not so sure of comparable marking ability though.

Note Soldo in for JLT 3 squad. Maric out. Soldo and/or Chol very likely to play.

Has to play round 1.

I'd written off the lad but gee he looks a modern footballer.

Perfect pressure & pace forward. Deserves his chance.

George is close to selection. If he can get it a bit more he's a senior player. Very nice grab today. One of the bright lights.
