Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

It’s all sorted then.

Leon would take Menzel over Castagna.

Leon ... lol

No, you just can't read or comprehend very well. Back to the James Bond fantasies before I really rip into you. Seriously ... are you about 13?

Just simply not our game plan. We are happy to give the opposition first touch, we've been close to the bottom of the clearance count the last 4 years. Then we pressure, pressure , pressure, turnover, score. We don't get as many disposals because we play a longer game. Interestingly both Eagles and Tigers are towards the bottom of this list yet sit #1 and #2 on the ladder. It did not fuss me at all that Geelong had alot more possession. They also had loads more handballs going backwards and sideways whilst under extreme pressure. All the hoo ha about how many disposals Danger and Selwood had yet who won the game and was for most of it in complete control? I prefer to see Cotch get 100+ pressure acts than 38 possessions with 15 of those 1-2s and cheap receives running behind our players with the ball.

Quick response, good to go. Weagles beat both us at home, and Pies at G. with a kick/mark game. I still think we can reverse that at the G, even if they had NN and Gaff. But, we can be beaten. So I'm not complacent. That's a risk.

No need to ask. Long ago. Particularly like the train-set analogies.

like I said, just sing out if you need that Menzel evaluation.

Great chance for George to show a bit of composure and domination this weekend against the Huns. A bag of 4 is what I expect.

LD and Smoking Aces have it right.

Something Leon needs to understand is that our game plan is not perfect. It will, by its very nature, involve turnovers of our own, but most importantly for this conversation, dirty entries.

Moving the ball as quickly as we do will result in plenty of inside 50s but not many of them are clean.

When the ball goes in, it is usually in chaos. You need speed, agility, strength and leap to prevent the oppo from simply waltzing the pill back out.

Why do teams hate playing us? Why do teams scratch their heads and despair of beating us, even though they’ve copied our style (see Collingwood).

The answer is personnel. You can’t click your fingers and conjure chaos merchants like Castagna. He performs so many lightning defensive efforts, often out-numbered, that he is worth his weight in gold.

How many small backs have killed us this year? I can’t think of one. Castagna will not only run with a bloke and negate him, he will also block, create space for Jack, position himself high for the hack ball and allow Jack or Caddy to stay dangerously deep.

Our entries are dirty. George is uniquely skilled to lock them down. In an ideal world he’d be cleaner with the pill but that is a small matter when you consider our breadth of goal kickers.

He’s a beauty.

Not sure in what bizarro world you would be unclear as to whether you would prefer a rising 27 yr old that has had 4 knee reconstructions over the athletic beast that is a 22 yr old Castagna.

Especially since Menzel averages less than 1 tackle a game when our whole game plan is built on pressure.

This must be a joke right?

Menzel would not get a game for Richmond.

I reckon aim higher TF

You really think what any of our players do against the Huns will mean that much? I'll try a train analogy for you.

Like an express loco through an abandoned dust-town. Tumbleweeds on the track the main obstacle.

EDIT: Sorry; meant to be a response to Easy. Forgot to quote in a rush. Wife ready to commit domestic violence if I get caught on PRE again.

Eagles are 3rd last for total disposals and they have the highest kick to handball ratio in the league. We are 13th in total disposals and 10 for kick to handball ratio. Collingwood are first for disposals and 3rd for kick to handball ratio. It's interesting stats. Eagles at one end of the spectrum, Collingwood at the other and we're fair square in the middle. For clearances compared to opposition we are LAST. I don't believe any team has ever won a premiership finishing last in this stat (last year we were 11th). It's intriguing really how we good be so good with such poor disposal and clearance stats. Only one explanation, speed and pressure.

What's bizarre is when posters cannot see past HDL's smoke-screen. He posted how unique George is and what a star CHF. HE then cites Menzel as a attempt to obscure his tracks, thinking it's such a clear-cut distinction. I have cited several players for easy comparison to dispute those silly claims : Thomas, WRioli and M, as examples to disprove. But HDL starts more dodges, weaves and fakes than our 3 amigos at their best. If you even look at the FW comparisons, unless you wear biased Tiger-coloured blinkers, anyone can see this. Menzel has his strengths, even after 4 ACLs, just like Butler does for us as a finisher, without being much of a CM.

Don't miss the forest for the tree, like HDL. Here's some others whose stats you can feed in: JElliot, PPuopolo, CRioli ... nearly every club has a quality SF or 2 who can also take a grab and kick goals. Obviously. But here's one especially for you, to see the message. Much higher draft pick, better than George in many areas e.g. av. nearly double the possessions, more marks, CPs & UPs, EDS x 2, DE% etc. Not to say George doesn't edge on some indicators. Yet this guy is rated almost twice the value on AF and Supercoach.

Nevertheless, this very week the media is speculating on whether his club will trade him out as a bust. Why? Because despite appearing a sharp field-kick, he is so poor in front of goal that he's costing his club wins. Never want to see JC reach this stage.

Apologies. Have to get going again. You deserve a better response. Later tonight.

Yeah I struggle with that. George is far from perfect. But he is perfect for what the game plan asks of him.

Picking our team on AF and supercoach points are we now. Geez. I think I'll use my eyes.

George over Menzel everyday.

Funnily enough you are using your AF and supercoach stats. Who would you have in your midfield out of Cotch, Pendlebury or Danger?

Yeh he’s getting desperate. Menzel (like miles and lloyd) would have been great 10 years ago. Today’s game exposes their lack of athleticism. They r all much better footballers in the truest sense than the likes of McIntosh but cannot do what he physically does.

Hopefully Lloyd gets a gig elsewhere next year.
