Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

I'll be interested to see if he can improve these areas.
If it continues, it won't take people long to turn if we're not winning is my guess.

The good thing now is if he can't clean up his rough edges we have Bolton and Stengle ready and waiting - good position to be in.

Anyway he is at the front of the que at the moment so hope he makes it as well as the other two.

We forget sometimes how young these guys are. Rioli, Butler, Castagna, Bolton and Stengle will all be between 19-21 in 2018 and have lots of improvement left in them.

A few years ago we didn’t have any small forwards

Good times

You'd think we'd have George's forward position covered by the start of 2019. Where does he graduate to?

After watching the finals series again I was surprised how often George impacted aerial contests. He came from the side, backed in from the front, from 2 or 3 deep over the back - anywhere really, and often at speed. I’d like to see a stat on how many times he halved contests in the air. He actually worked himself into the best position to take contested marks a number of times, but hard hands let him down. Courageous effort, and super important to our forward entries not being intercepted. Check out his first half vs GWS.

This. George thinks he's a CHF. He always goes up hard into a marking contest against players much taller. He's like the ugly duckling who thinks he's a swan. You see alot of smalls to mediums lose marking contests because they don't go up and concede defeat early to a taller opponent. This isn't George.

I thought that and I've been critical of George. But the more replays I watch, the more I think George (if he develops a little further) could be integral to our forward line. If he starts sticking a few marks, there won't be many players in the league who have that combination of aerial and tackling presence. Persist with imo.

Watched the replay of the Geelong game
He must have turned the ball over 4-5 times just with what should have been basic things
Just think someone will take his spot at some stage next year

I think that's a directive from the coaching staff, Hazza.

Watching the season highlights a few times there are a few players that on reflection had a greater impact that many prob realised on face value , lambert quickly comes to mind , George is another that people are quick to underrate , you d be surprised just how busy he was in score involvements , is no surprise he is held in such high regard

Watched the prelim again last night. George was everywhere in the first quarter and a bit when we were under the pump. His stuff ups are a lot more noticeable than some of his good work.

With Castagna IMO the key question will be can he sustain the pressure because of other shortcomings in his game.
It's very hard to sustain that manic pressure he applied this year. If it drops off whether due to injury or effort, I don't think he's got enough offensive game to get him through.

George is excellent value. He'll polish up the rawness and keep getting better.

Hardwick coached a dual Coleman medallist to become the leading tackler on the ground in a Grand Final.

Nobody is good enough to get by with just an offensive game in this team ;)

He needs to work on his handling skills over the summer. Or just get better hand grip .
He was so close on many occasions on taking a mark but just fumbled it to the ground.
If he improves his ball skills including handballing we will have a real X factor in the forward line.

Plenty of scope for improvement. Stick a mark, handball to a target and nail a set shot.

Yeah so many times it was a case of almost.

Love the way he launches for his marks & throws himself at the contest at ground level.
He often splits packs and brings the ball to ground when on bigger opponents.
