Welcome to Tigers: Jason Castagna

George's sudden reinvention as a high forward/mid seems odd considering our need for an attacking defender right now. Suggests the coaches are wary of his disposal IMO. He might debut soon but it may not be as a back.
What happen when they decided to draft him? Did they decide to overlook his disposal skills? Let's not draft good kicks. Draft guys that cant kick and then spend 5-6 years trying to find them a position that mitigates their bad kicking skills. Only at Richmond.

according to McRae JC played the 1st quarter down back and didnt touch the ball so they moved him. it seems he then played well.
That doesnt suggest they want to reinvent him, or are wary of his disposal, just that he was struggling in Sunday so they made a change to get him in the game and it worked.

i would look to play him down back soon.

Oh come on... Its the Dimma way. We also turn forwards into backs ::)

Dimma method.

Recruit forward.

Forward kicks goals.

Teach forward defensive skills.

Forward kicks less goals.

Drop forward and replace with defender.

Defender does not kick goals.

Replace with another defender.

Defender does not kick goals.

Place defenders in leadership group.

Delist forward.

Even though we are screaming for another attacking HB to help Houli out, I think this might be his best position. We need a breakaway mid just as badly.
Yep. Disposal worries are lessened playing as a breakaway mid compared to a running defender. If George can burst from clearances and pump the ball quickly forward, it gives our forwards one-out opportunities.

Thought Castagna showed plenty to work with at Frankston yesterday despite the team woes and I had him as one of our best.
Rushed disposal could still be an issue but I really like his repeat efforts and link up work. He's also fleet by foot.
He needs to be out of that VFL environment now and be given opportunities in the senior team.
It's time to end the George farce.

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Another player with average foot skills. Has a crack though.

Haven't seen him tha8ball. Is it his foot skills or decision making?

I'd read somewhere that he could kick but got himself in a panic and made the wrong decision. Or he kept trying to run at full pace and kick at the same time, rather than take a moment to steady (like Matt white did when he first came to RFC). Be interesting to know what you think, as I think the second scenario can be fixed, but poor kickers rarely ever become good ones.
