Welcome to Tigerland - Callum Moore

So long as he keeps his speed and agilty and tackles like townsend he will be good

Now just teach him to kick

Kicking much much better this year Turk, so it is improving.

I have really liked this lad from the first time I saw him in his first year playing VFL. He has all the attributes for the modern game and is not so tall or heavy as to lose any agility for 193cm. He is also hard at it. Want to see him step up further next year given the opportunity. He can also play wing or HBF and has done so to effect at VFL level.

Just watched the GF again.

This guy never had any composure. 2016 he was very ordinary.

Grand Final - he had it in spades. I don't recall a single mistake against a much-vaunted forward line.

What happened?

Experience. Some do get better with age. He is only 21.

The prelim final was even better. It's a great sign to see a player step up their game during finals when the heat ramps up. Augers well for him being able to step up at AFL level

Looked great in the Prelim. Hopefully trains hard in the off season, gets leaner, meaner and improved cardio.

Fingers crossed.

Reckon Cal has looked pretty handy in the JLT appearances.
Unlikely starter for rnd 1 vs the Blues but looks most likely at this point to step into Jack's mobile fwd role if required.
He continues to improve..

Seymour is one of our most interesting players.

He contrasts beautifully with the other superb athlete we rookied that year - Mabs. The biggest difference is in their hands. Mabs can use by hand - immaculate technician. But his use is considered. Seymour's hands are smart and quick. Aggressive and orthodox.

Seymour's field kicking has been bundled in with his long-range goal kicking by fans and wrongly maligned. Seymour is a smart player and his use by foot is usually good. And it's improving. His field kicking is quick and orthodox but he's inconspicuous. A professional by foot. Mabs is conspicuous and glamourous. Seymour was always the better field kick.

When we got hold of the two players each was lacking in physical confidence and not terribly dissimilar in size. Mabs 198/81. Seymour 193/87. Mabs a couple of inches taller but both skinny.

Two years on and Mabs is now a monster. And strictly a ruck prospect - no longer a key forward candidate because he's too bulky. If anything Seymour looks leaner over the two years. On the park he looks like Menadue. He is no longer a traditional key forward prospect because he doesn't have the bulk. Given the evolution of football and more over the way RFC plays it this is an advantage for Seymour.

These days Mabs is behind Ivan the younger in the ruck pecking order while Seymour right now is directly behind Townsend for the #3 forward job.

Mabs has grown into his body better to date. He knows he's bigger than nearly anybody else and will fly. He doesn't do it often enough yet but he does is a bit. Seymour can get serious air. He keeps his feet so doesn't. He's very considered in his approach to the air ball and his body positioning. He isn't ready yet to take the physical heat that Townsend does. And Seymour isn't busy enough at ground level to push Towner out. Seymour is the one who still lacks confidence. He was always behind Mabs for confidence.

To level up Seymour has to take front possie more often and hold it. And to work harder defensively at ground level. He has shown us this preseason that he can get a kick. He has to get more. And that his long-range goal kicking has improved from hilarious to passable.

Callum Moore can earn senior selection if his game levels up for position, particularly holding position, and he gets busier, particularly at ground level. He's not that far off. The confidence is coming.

Seymour? I thought you were talking about Buttler.

Butler's got a bit of that going on, TTT. Lacks confidence. Inexperienced.

Think TTT was referring to the name Seymour. As in Seymore Butts!!
The only limitation I see with Butts is that he appears more of a link up type player than a play maker. That's why he's vulnerable to Higgins and Bolton. Both have football smarts in congestion. He also paddles the ball with his feet rather that picking it up and dishing off a hand ball but this can be rectified with confidence as you say.

Ah. I can keep up. Honest, BT. :eek:ld

Ok. Seymour had his customary hilarious miss today and one surprising turnover by foot.

For each of the last two weeks he has been reasonable. But with one surprise each week. His native smarts have levelled up. A brilliant tap to Higgins in the goal square last week and a sublime knock on this week.

This guy has at lest a very good football brain. He is usually smart with the ball and can now be brilliant. But he lacks urgency and physical confidence. He isn't busy enough and not near our defensive standards yet. He may come in but that's where he has to lift. Workrate. Evenness of effort. Urgency, particularly of defence. And in time front position with boldness.

Towner had a poor one. Seymour can press. Caddy out. Might be close.

For those who saw the game what was his defensive pressure/tackling etc like? If it's not up there he won't be selected.

5 tackles to Moore from the report I saw. 6 to Chol

Seymour was well worth a look today.

Just the one ShEd class handball. Another elite ground level moment - sucker played by a diving small opponent Seymour avoided the push in the back and pivoted his hapless opponent into holding the ball. Class. Brains.

One hilarious goal shot but otherwise elite crisp and quick use.

I mentioned after last week's game that Mabs had passed Seymour for physical confidence. Ahem.

Ok. Well Mabs is not one to benchmark off in that he can always leap backwards (if he leaps at all). ;D

But Seymour jumped at the air ball today. He used his strength on smaller opponents too but he got real air at times. A show of confidence. Good stuff.

More urgency. More frequent air attack. Front position. Hold front position. Eh. It's not mysterious. Seymour knows whats' required.
