But I rather write players off before they get a chance.

tigerlove said:Geez watching the highlights reel on the Tigers website this kid looks the goods. Has speed to burn and some of those chase down tackles were great. I'm not concerned about his physique, he's shot up very quickly and it takes a little while for the muscles and extra weight to catch up. But if he is around 193cm and 90kgs he's already a strong build and base to work from. To compare with others Grimes is 90kg, Rance 94kg, Miller & Balta 94kg, Garthwaite 90kg. If he manages to put on another couple of centimetres and a few extra kilos in a couple of years you probably don't want to be bumping into him in the midfield.

Watching the Stoker highlights, opponents were laying tackles and Stoker was clearing the ball with handballs.
Watching Dawkin's highlights, Dowkins was breaking tackles running 10 yards and giving off. He might be light up top, but he looks big through the hips which seems to help him power through packs, at least at U18 level.
Hopefully it's a case of DeJavu (did i spell that right?), Carlton grabbing the player before us, and leaving us with a gun! ala Cotchin.

leon said:Yer, both unproven inside mids as yet so no guarantees on who will prove better, but I'm happy to go with the one about 10cms taller and 5kgs heavier. RFC really challenged Stocker on his lack of defensive running too. Our guy looks faster as well.
My only concern, Bullus, is why do you think RCD slid so we could even grab him?
bullus_hit said:I think his running was the killer blow, bottom 20% for endurance invites a fair bit of risk. Carlton clearly not the right place to be, think they need guaranteed 100 gamers & Stocker is that type. But in saying that, Stocker nowhere near the ceiling of RCD, this has the potential to be one of those awkward moments where a gun goes the pick after, not quite in the Tambling realm but could get embarrassing.

And Seymour gets nowhere near the big sticks.
caesar said:Bully, do you know where RCD ranked for endurance as that was also one of his queries and he acknowledges his running isn't up to scratch. i know that is what conditioning coaches are for and happy to have but interested how he comppared to Stocker.
bullus_hit said:7 minutes for 2km, Stocker 30 secs quicker, the fastest being Kennerley another 30 secs quicker than Stocker. So really RCD at the lower end of the spectrum, Stocker mid range & Kennerley elite.
But a couple of points worth noting, RCD is more a middle distance runner, to put that in some perspective, Luke Foley is a junior state 400m/800m champion but could only manage 6 mins 47sec for the 2km.
Second point is that Patrick Cripps ran a 13.4 beep at the combine, that is poor for a prospective midfielder, he got that up in 12 months & is now elite for his position. So by my reckoning we should temper all expectations for 2019, 5 games would be great & something of a bonus. There's some chance RCD could play forward but he's still learning that position too. A full season in the VFL would be best & plenty of time honing his forward work.
