Welcome to Tiger land Riley Collier’Dawkins

If we don't we will never know if he and others can step up or not.
Exactly right. Massive gap between 1sts and 2nds nowadays. Just because some perform quietly in the 2nds doesn't mean they're automatically no good. RCD's played 1sts already so we're not throwing him in the deep end as a debut ala Samson Ryan last season.

Seems the coaches love RCD game

Riley Collier-Dawkins (24 disposals, six tackles, six clearances)
"Really high contested possessions and for the second week in a row, stepped in to tackle with intent. He's continuing his good form."
Clearly they've not been keeping up to date with the experts here.

Cheap shot, General. Morris is putting a positive spin on Riley's two average performances. You couldn't accuse me of being a serial RCD bagger or anything approaching it, but he's been underwhelming thus far this season. There might be reason(s) for that (COVID, ribs). We'll find out in due course.

Or Morris could be genuinely happy with what RCD was asked to do. How can you be so confident what Morris was doing ?

RCD plays like a good VFL player. Sometimes that type elevates into seniors, like Stack did in 2019 after ordinary VFL performances. But when you see Sonsie's class alongside RCD you see where the level needs to be.

24 possessions, 6 clearances.
The coaches would know his instructions and whether he followed them.
Generally speaking, if a player did well, they say it. If they did poorly, it gets written as stuff like "below his normal output", "didn't meet what we'd expect from him, he'll bounce back next week", "has some items to work on in his game", "had a tough match-up", "was down on his previous weeks" etc.
I think what you're doing is a cheap shot.
* You're saying our coaches don't have integrity. How does a player feel if we're messaging he was great externally, but telling them they were crap internally?
* you're saying you had greater insight into what his role was than they do, and are therefore in a better position to judge his performance
* you're trusting your own bias not to have brown coloured glasses on, not rose coloured
You may not be a serial bagger, but I reckon there's momentum on these forums to say he's a dud. Its easy to pile on with the mob.
That same type of momentum existed for Edwards, Houli, Rance and others. Lucky our list management have their own minds, others we may be heading into 40+ years without a flag.

There's momentum in team selection, General.

The VFL report is usually positive, even for the 3 possession VFL squad players this week. It doesn't mean players in Riley's position aren't given benchmarks in a constructive manner behind closed doors, but he's now had Dow and Ross win that selection battle, and Sonsie's roaring past him.

Different players. I think Riley's a workhorse type, he might bust a pack with strength. He's not a classy player like Sonsie. I see Ross as a competitor for a spot though.

Pity he bruised his ribs, otherwise we could have given him a go when Prestia was out.

We really need to find out if RCD can be a decent player at AFL level. All reports before the year stated was that he was getting bigger and working on his endurance. This is make or break year but we don't want to see RCD fail because of lack of opportunities - we want to see a measured assessment of his abilities based on a fair number of games at AFL level.

I thought that at first, but he still isn't getting anything more than a dribbled handpass out when tackled. He's had enough preseasons to get that strength but still hasn't.

I'd love him to succeed but he still has a fair way to go on a few fronts. It's still early in the VFL season so hopefully we'll see more evidence of progression.

Or we could just trust our eyes.
So trust your eyes with what. Did you see the defensive pattern/s he ran ? Did you see that he and Samson agreed where he would stand at the centre bounce, he positioned where asked, Samson gets out-muscled and Riley gets across the center circle and prevents a Sandy clearance (the defensive stuff that Morro mentioned) ? Did you see the tap out of a pack to Tyler that gave Tyler a clearance and a clean possession ?

With Dow and potentially Sonsie in front of him, Prestia returning; i can't see how he can get into the team.

Unless perhaps Graham gets a spell.

Very early in the season to be making judgements on young players.

He's on an upward trajectory looking at his VFL numbers.

Perhaps there's merit to the sore ribs rumour. If this is true then with time he should keep on improving as he heals. I'm still hopeful that he'll make it.
