Welcome to Tiger land Riley Collier’Dawkins

Still not selling all my stock.
Hold it mate. Blue chip stuff I reckon. Will take a while to mature, but I think we'll see by seasons end, whether the return is good average player or AFL calibre.

Should be a cracking VFL game tomorrow.
Stack returns too.
Will be interesting to see Riley.
He has been eclipsed by other players in our senior team, Gibb, Hugo, Dow Jones and Matt P.
Real resilience to hang in there when the chips are down.

Our VFL midfielders should have no excuse today with Soldo clearing the path in the middle.

What I find interesting about the RCD talk is what the expectations of he’s fans are , do they believe he will go from been an average VFL player to a 200 AFL game player just because he’s had an interrupted start to he’s career or because he’s a “ project “ player or Do we think he’s going to play a role as a clearance beast for a couple of seasons ? Irrelevant to what I believe the type of player he is , forgetting who the player is , I’m not sure we can have a lot of hope in a midfielder who dosent destroy VFL oppositions that when he plays against the quality AFL midfielders his all of a sudden going to beat those guys , outside taggers you don’t win Premierships with handy role playing mids in your starting line up

He’s been decent when given chances in the seniors. I think it’s all conjecture until he’s given a few games to prove himself.

So, in terms of his clearance rate, he's been up near the best in his draft year from memory. The issue I feel was when we got him, he had an immature body and little endurance. I'm guessing (cause I barely ever watch juniors) he won a lot of contests as a kid because of his bulk, not his strength.
We need to strip down his body and rebuild him. All while trying to get him into our system, and teach him about 2 way running. This kid was never got to, nor expected to, jump in and have an impact straight away.
We've had covid which had impacted the development of all players. So the project process was set back again. All the while, there's been signs, that he still has his strengths (clearance ability). It can match AFL level bodies and intensity. No question. The concerns are all the other deficiencies in his game.
He hired a fitness coach reportedly and got himself in proper condition - Should he have done this before now? yep. Probably. But he didn't and now he has. So we owe him the chance to keep his spot and support him, not say delist after two or three games.
If he does enough, he's going to get a low base contract next year. If after 12ish games he's not stepped up, I'm sure he's going to struggle.
I think he's got the *potential* to be a clearance animal, and probably get to 100-150 games. He's not going to be Cripps, nor Bont, nor Ollie Wines. But so long as he helps us get first hands on the ball, our match winning capability can be achieved by others.
For every Cotchin and Dusty, you need a Grigg, Graham and Kamdyn.
The posts here though are people looking for him to fail. Saying he barely touches the ball, but the stats say he's had 24. Saying he's had a poor game, but the coaching staff say otherwise.
I trust our club, until demonstrate to us that they're not in touch with the game anymore. They built the dynasty after all.

Absolutely we should trust our club atm general.

And the most important and trusted sign from the club where they see RCD is not from a fluffy VFL report where if you read it you'd think we've won by 10 goals not lost by that.

Its at selection.

We are getting beat up around clearances and badly need a big body but he's not even emergency ATM.

Unfortunately for RCD, he has now been surpassed by Dow.

Dow has shown the ability to work in close but also get the ball on the outside. Two way running.

This is where RCD needs to get to.

Our mantra as a midfield is two way running. Prestia, Lambert, Graham, Cotchin. They all do it. If you don’t have the ability to do that then the you won’t get picked. It’s what our game plan is based on.

Castsgna has his many critics but he does that gut running.

Said it in the preseason, but it's doubly true now.

We can officially put a big, black line through RCD's name.

Then finish it with an angry looking red cross.

He's been surpassed by players younger than him in every year since his draft, including the most recent batch.

And I still don't know what his value is. Other than being a Key position sized mid, who can't play either position.

I'd have Castagna in my side over RCD.

Which is saying something.

Be Nice.
Your talking about a 3 time premiership hero who with the likes of Bulter and Rioli turned us into the best side for almost 5 yrs.
He's a legend of the club.

Can't ask for more than he's given.

But he's still not a very good footballer.

I actually think his best position might be as a high half forward.

*smile* you really don’t rate RCD
The way I think about selection is, a player needs to be able to fulfil at least one of the following:

A) Be a gun
B) Do at least one useful thing extremely well
c) Fill a structural need

It's why I've never been able to figure out the selection of Jake Aarts. And why post 2020 rule changes, same goes for Castagna. He did one thing extremely well (forward pressure), but that became not particularly useful with the current ruleset.

RCD also falls in the same boat. I don't know why he would ever be selected.
