Welcome to Tiger land Riley Collier’Dawkins

I don’t care what he is… he needs to be given games to see what he has regardless…the midfield is possibly the worst in the league at the moment so it can’t hurt.
I just don’t get everyone’s thinking on rcd, he’s playing twos, and nowhere near good enough at that level, but for some reason we need to put him in the seniors, to find out whether he's good enough. wtf

He hasn't.
Do you know what instructions he's been given by the coaches?

The feedback from Morris says they were at worst, content, with his performance last week. If they wanted him to play a run with role for example, so that he starts Learning better defensive skills, how would you know?
We're using the VFL to develop kids, not necessarily to win flags. We need to see if we get bland feedback in the weekly reports, or positive feedback.

Given that in a pre-season briefing Neil Balme and 2 coaches were explicit that certain players were going to be told to play to set instructions I have belief that RCD is one of these. Nigel, Biggie, Ben and MJR would be others based on what I've seen.

IMO some players have to reach a higher level to get a game whilst others do not. RCD is one of these kids. Just get him in and leave him there

When will some people on here realize RCD is a very ordinary footballer. Can tackle, has size but.... Is not a threat in the air, does not get enough of the ball. If you are always tackling means you are second to the ball. After two games Sonsie makes him look VFL standard at best. Need a clean out to go forward; Ross, AArts, RCD, Martyn, Cumberland, do not possess the skill to make it to AFL. Whilst I am ranting we also lack developing (with potential to make it) KPF's. Have not given up on Biggie and Miller.

He is a big lad and has the skills but his awareness and work rate seem to let him down. We just have to give him a run in our depleted midfield to see if he can step up otherwise people like Sonsie will sail past him

Sonsie 34 disposals, 10 clearances, 7 tackles and a goal on the weekend. Not sure if Riley has put together a game like that yet at VFL level. It is make or break for him this year

Not sure about this kid now had hopes for him but may not be good enough

And then on the weekend against Sandringham.

RCD 21 .......... 5 clearances, 4 tackles.

On the face of it those stats are ok but the way Sonsie influences a midfield contest compared to R-CD is stark.
Sonsie is always on the move when he gets the footy where as Riley is often flat footed.
Sonsie also has a natural ability to pick up possessions with his reading of the play. Riley generally has trouble getting possessions.
He's being overlooked for a reason.

I can’t think of any kids that were drafted that only played 9 games into their 4th season that went on to become good AFL players. The writing is on the wall. He’s 193cm, I wonder if there’s any scope to try and change his role? Has he been tried down back or up forward at VFL level?

There's something manufactured about RCD. Doesn't look a natural footballer to me. Doesn't play with footy smarts, aggression, a want to hunt the ball or make an impact by forcing himself on multiple contests. Cannot spread or create space. Seems to go through the motions and happy to be a bit part player. Is he stifled by coaching, or is that as good as he gets? I suspect it's the latter as his junior footy suggests he was never all that.

No tank and for an inside mid plays with the attitude of an outside flanker....
Cripper is the ideal...JoN the trajectory.

Yes, Sonsie looks like being a ripper.

The club has spruiked RCD 's pre-season training for at least the last 2 years, for zero results, I don't whether it's for his benefit, or us fans. Granted he copped some sore, or busted ribs this year.

One thing he is reasonably good at is winning a clearance and offloading it, and he is pretty damn good by foot. Those 2 goals in the VFL GF are testament to that.

I've just got a nagging thought in the back of my head that says he is a late developer. At some stage this season, sooner than later, i'd just like to see he him given an extended go to show us what he can do.

Seems the coaches love RCD game

"Really high contested possessions and for the second week in a row, stepped in to tackle with intent. He's continuing his good form."
