Welcome to the Tiggers - Daniel Butler

Off his back. For a midget he was close to our best.

With hindsight probably a bit tough.

I really like Butler. Far more than George. Butler has real skills and in time I think he could be a fine player.
In the midst of all this failed trade talk, at pick 67 he looks to be an astute pickup.

An Axle Foley re-incarnate...?

Spot on. Butler just has that touch that we wish George had. He's a much more rounded player IMO

He will have quiet games in the role, but just need to stick with him.

Has a good deal of growth as a footballer to come.

Can really physically furnish.

Got some inside dope on Daniel. Tough as nails, whole family is.
I'm a personal friend of his parents. They aren't tough just normal hardworking run of the mill Ballarat folk. Dad connected with a few licorice allsorts. Mum a lovely woman with football pedigree in her genes. Young Dan is a tough nut who can hold his own. Now Greg Burns and Ronnie Andrews they were tough as nails Ballarat boys.

Plugger was fairly handy too.

Playing junior footy in the mornings in Ballarat would surely toughen you up.
Only place colder in winter is Daylesford.

Never got fluffy white snow in Ballarat, always horrible dirty hard slush.

Getting a sodden Sherrin in the numb face in zero degrees in such slush, with a 40 Knot southerly blowing at the Northern Oval was not for the faint hearted.

Daylesford took it to another degree of difficulty with the thin mountain air slashing at your lungs.

Hepburn decreased the pleasantness quotient further. Soggy, leaden Sherrin. Dirty, hard slush. Thin slashing gale. AND in-bred, mutton-reared lumps, thumping you in the frozen ear at every opportunity. :shakehead

Yep, it's colder than charity out that neck of the woods!!

As a minor point on Butts he is the 101st ranked player on average points in the AFL player ratings, just behind the likes of Wingard and Stringer, and above Charlie Cameron. Obviously these rankings aren't the definitive rankings but still That's a pretty good effort for a kid playing his first 7 games and shows he is having an impact.

Do you know how do they break that down, Brodders? Their points system? Are they including defensive data?

Nah, Jack. In true AFL style its done using a system that's as complex as it is nonsensical. See tribunal and draft points systems. A boogle of weasels determine how confused an average punter will become if they try to decipher a set of systems and then they apply the most bamboozling . It is done this way so that questions and criticism can be dismissed summarily.

You've perfectly precised the operating manual of the Alternative Facts League, tommy. ;D

Just to clarify, are the AFL ratings from Inside Football or are they different?

Yep, I mentioned something similar on the Caddy thread where he is rated ELITE in his category of mid/forward. The ratings are based on a players last 40 games and as you say a complex algorithm taking into account not just disposals etc but value to the team, metres gained, 1% ers among other stats.

With his pace he could really add something in the midfield on a more permanent basis.

Personally don't think his hands are good enough to play on ball. Seems to fumble a little. Link up player is his go. Unsure he can get his hands on it in the middle but would give him a chance to find out
