Welcome to the Tigers Nathan Broad

Garthwaite isnt a replacement for Broad, and Balta hasnt played a game, and despite some potential he hasnt shown he could play on a Greene type.
IMO, the only thing that will keep Broad out of the team is Broad himself. If he doesnt play well he will be dropped but we dont have anyone that can play his role.

I disagree. I think Garthwaite, a similar size and weight, is a potential replacement for Broad. Or if a bit more run is required, a Markov is a possible replacement as a slightly smaller player. Or a Grimes could take on more of a Broady role and a Garthwaite or Miller (in the future) slip more into a Grimes role. But at this stage Broad deserves his spot ahead of those mentioned. Clearly Balta is not being groomed for a backman's role. The fight for spots for backline key and peripheral players is very healthy and is why I think we have such a strong backline.

Played very well against the Dees, does the job, and i'm not sure if it's just me, but his kicking action doesn't seem as awkward anymore.

He might look awkward but he is definitely dual sided.

A lock for Round 1.

Promising that he got so many touches. He was regularly below 10 in games last year. Still get nervous when he is running the ball out of defence, still misses targets by foot which costs us heavily

Big fan of Broady. Reckon he's very underrated. Very athletic, good in the air, can play on smalls and talls. Don't think he's as easy to displace as a few of the Garthwaite fans may think.

Difference is Broad is one of the best aerobically at the club hes agile a power runner and pretty quick too hence his ability to play numerous roles, tall, small, shutdown, covering as a loose or as a runner, it is this flexibility that had him targeted by Rutten to be slotted into this role when he was out with his AC joint at the start of 2017.

It is not surprising that once Nathan came in the Tigers defence especially Tross and Tigga started becoming intercept kings and dominating, it was a tactic devised by Truck Rutten from memory.

Its another reason why Jayden Short was dropped after Houli returned from his long injury and suspension and couldnt get back in he didnt give the defence the extra size strength and flexibility.

Garthwaite is Daves and Tross replacement not Broads.

When Nathan is out of the team Vlastuin then takes on the role which takes away from the Tigers ability to intercept as the likes of Short and Bash etc dont do it and if Rance and Dave have their hands full with star key forwards that hurts our defensive set up and rebound..

Is Broady a pretty player to watch not really does he have an exciting highlight reel not really does he do his job yes he does and its an important one, and a unique one.

As Hardwick said his job aint to hit the stats sheet its to do his job, whatever that role is on game day.

Played a very good game on Saturday.

I'm a big fan too, he's got a fair bit of **** in him too which i love.

The most impressive thing is the recruiting team picked him up at Pick #67 in the 2015 national draft as a 22 year old. Credit where's it's due.

Spot on, craig. Alongside McIntosh, Broad is the least appreciated lock in our 22.

Thought he added more attack to his game, very underrated athlete who can play on many types, complements the likes of Rance, Grimes and Vlaustin very well, he’ll be there round 1.

Broady was obviously playing injured during the latter part of season but is now fully fit and seems to have stepped up a little but more from last season. Not a big numbers man but always up for the hard work so a good one to have in our best 22
