Welcome to the Tigers Nathan Broad

We’re the best backline in the league, a Broad was part of that reason

And he will continue to be....
Yes, he will miss the first three games, but he will be busting his gut to get back in and make amends....and that's a great thing cos it keeps the current 22 honest knowing that quality players are banging on the door.

And when he does get back in, he will continue his improvement, and then some....

Broad was a very pleasant surprise.

Tall strong tough quick,

Gave us a bit more bite defensively than Short.

Having said that I am a big fan of Short as well,

Watched the GF again last night Broad was really good, we will miss him and I would say assuming he trains well and clearly wants to make amends he will be back in Rd4.

Broad soon showed he was the misssing link shortly after coming back into the side. I was doubtful because last year he was outbodied a lot in one on ones and so so with the ball.

I like Shorty but if Houli was playing loose and the opposition rotated through our backs they often got a mismatch tall against 177cm Shorty.

As soon as Broad came in we got another good quality negator plus he has speed. Interestingly Nathan said the time off earlier this year allowed him to work on his stremngth and core and he put on a couple of kilos of muscle. It showed.

Shorty's ball use is way better than Houli's, especially penetrating on hi weaker foot. That's whose spot he will take in time.

Like Rioli in the forward half there’s going to be an opportunity for someone in Broads spot for the first month of footy, I’d like to see Markov take the chance, he was the in the 22 till Caddy came back for the first final, sounds like Higgins may get a chance at Riolis role early, dare say Bolton will be making claims too.

CEllis, Conca and Short would also be eyeing Broad's spot. Menadue hunting a spot too.

Sure is!

2 spots there for the taking for the first month , at least.

With Broads unavailability I would like for like.

Riolis spot, well there is Shai, Stengle and don't discard our other picks this year including our rookie.

Agree, however the difference with Broad over the others is height an his ability to be 3rd man up, underrated skill of all of our back 6 is all of there aerial ability’s to help out.

Good sign isn’t it ,that all 4 you mention TBH played some good senior footy last season, I’d say Conca played his best 6 weeks of footy before injury. Massive year for all 4 , all 4 could be in the starting 22, all 4 could be not at Punt Rd this time next year.

While not the desired option for the ones who can't make a spot their own, they can still have claims for a spot elsewhere and therefore increase our trade options.

With the compulsory 3 list changes required each year, we are getting to an interesting juncture where we are going to have to make some very challenging decisions. Players will need to be delisted, rather than traded, to make way for draftees.
None of the younger players have really had enough time or development to swing the axe at this stage. Depth comes with its own quandries.

Its certainly getting harder but thats to be expected after winning the premiership and all looking through rose coloured glasses, But there are players that standout as being on the outer for both ability and injury
Players that are on the edge imo are as follows
Griffiths - Concussion issue's will be a factor as well as his ability to fill a list need with his competitiveness
Conca - Injuries and ability to stay on the park as well has his ability to transition his game to the new style
Hampson - I have always been a critic of his and have no idea why he was ever traded for over a younger ruck & his ability to stay on the park
Miles - Too good for VFL but has shot comings in the AFL , Can he adapt his game and improve defensive aspects
Lloyd - A true footballer but has his limitations with pace and his ability to apply defensive pressure Higgins will be his replacement
C.Ellis - 3 years into his career and constant injuries , Has his work cut out for him - IMO competitiveness and Hardness are his issue's
Drummond - Injuries with 2 knees and you would think he is definitely on his last chance and will need to show he can make the level

Free Agents
Grimes - Grimes is the only player i see having interest from clubs (hawks/Pies Imo) Could be offered a decent deal and may consider
Grigg - Wont have many interested clubs at his age
Conca - Doubt there would be any interest but maybe just maybe West Coast with their lack of mids and Conca being a west australian
Griffiths - Wont have many interested clubs With his injury issue's
Houli - Wont have many interested clubs at his age

Turk I agree with the Griffith/Drummond assessment their bodies are the issue.

Hampson his ruck type has become obsolete.

Nothing wrong with Miles defensive efforts just needs to work on his offensive spread.

Conca was blossoming under our new game plan before his injury,(was in out top 6 up until round 5) just needs some luck just like Atsbury.

Lloyd lacks genuine speed and a defensive mindset.(but is a natural forward)

I just can't get over how big a body Broad has.

He kind of looks small but when you see him up against Tex or someone, he is big.

Broady has a pretty decent highlights package on the rfc website. Amazing how far he came in 2 years
