Welcome to the Tigers Nathan Broad

Hopefully Garthwaite improves enough over the summer to vie for that position. I think at this stage he is a better longer-term prospect than Broad.

No great lose anyway.
I'm happy for short to play his role anyway.

Another ridiculous Short for Broad comment seriously ..............

Broad shuts down Greene he shuts down Lynch in the Grand Final a most critical role in beating the Crows go to link man whom nearly all their attacks go through .........

I spent every week Broad was in the side explaining his position and that he was not taking Shorts spot, in fact Short doesnt have a spot he wasnt best 22 he isnt a premiership player, Broad is, and his performances were a major contributing factor in the Tigers winning the flag.

Some still even after a premiership win still keep spouting the same rubbish.

Tiger mad seriously dude.

It will be Tigga who goes back to that role.

Broads inclusion was a major contributing factor to the premiership.

Short was giving nothing for his last 4 odd games, and was dumped because Houli and Vlastuin were back in the side and they were assisted by Brandon thus there was no need for Short nor a spot for him, the side went better without Short in it.

He was replaced in the back by Vlastuin and Houli after they had been out for about 10 to 12 weeks between them Broad stiffened up the defence with extra size intercepting and winning hard contests.

Broad allowed Grimes to shut down Betts Broad shuts down Lynch leaving Dave and Alex to deal with Tex aND jENKINS.

Jayden Short in the side does not allow this and im sure he wouldnt have shut down either Betts or Lynch

Certainly has shown his credentials in the last few games and especially in the GF to be able to shut down a damaging opposition yet still rebound when needed. Could make a career at tigerland if he continues andeliminates his drunken escapades.

Oleg will most likely take his spot for the first rounds and then we will see if he gets back in. Great last 8 weeks for NB.

Points about Broad are valid but Short has enormous potential. Fast and a longer more penetrating kick than Broad. Nice problem to have. Short might be another run in the forward half?

Look I love shorty and I’m not sure why there’s a Broady v shorty debate but Broady has a long laser like kick on him.
Watch the finals again. That won’t be hard to take for sure!

That's a stretch to call it a major factor.

Dusty was a major factor, Chimp a major factor, Rance a major factor. Broad performed a role.

The big thing was his second half against the GWS, was poor in the first half but didn't lose his confidence and had a couple of important moments in the 2nd half.

Lynch still had 18 disposals and 5 marks in the GF, not sure you would say he was shut down. Walker was shut down, Jenkins was shut down, Betts was shut down.

I agree that Short is not a replacement for Broad. Broad is a very good athletic blend with height, speed and agility, if he gets further confidence when he has ball in hand he could be a very useful player with this flexibility.

I don't know where that comes from as most of Broad's kicks were short neat kicks.

Laser like is a big stretch.

You are the voice of reason!!

Short replaces houli or ellis as the running and delivery small back. Or into the forward line as a goal kicking small.

Broad is grimes like in that he's very versatile, plays on bigs and smalls, and can shut down both types. This allows rance and vlastuin the luxury to be more attacking. We have the right balance back there and broad will be back in rd 4 or 5.

Broad became extremely important to our backline. His inclusion gives us great flexibility. Rance, Grimes, Vlastuin and Broad can pretty much all play on anyone from Eddie Betts right through to Lance Franklin. It means that our defenders can all play wherever they want, rather than being moved around to get the matchups right. In the second half of the season, other teams were trying to rotate half their team through their forward line looking for mismatches but could never find one.

The other benefit he gave us was freeing up Houli. Relieved of the need to pick up a man, he just ran, breaking the lines and launching attacking moves. His drive was devastating during the finals. Having one more dependable defender behind him gave him a great deal of confidence.

Houli hasn't really picked up a man for years. I agree in part that having an extra defender whose main role was to stop his opponent may have been a factor, Broad wasn't playing on opponents that Houli may have. (eg no way Houli takes Lynch in the GF).

I'm a fan of Broad's flexibility but he's not really playing on a guy Houli might. That's more Vlaustin.

Houli was devastating in the GF though!
