Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

He has a proven September/October record , however spook with Aarts and Georgie locks it would appear with the MC, is Rioli the last of the smalls into that forward line ? Personally I’d have Stack and Parker in front of him , yep it’s a huge call considering the past 18 months of both boys , however both can ad more then just pressure , actually think both would do something that isn’t as important as it once was for a small forward and that’s kick goals :))
Wow, Mr.B. ? In front of a 3-time premiership player? Really. Parker after 1 good VFL game for us but already tried and cut at the Aints who are hardly the greatest taskmasters on performance. Hannebery, Hill anyone? Sure, he's talented but HARDLY has much score on the board compared to DRioli.

Similarly, never seen a player generate as much salivating hype on PRE as Sid Stack. Not since Jesus McBean at least. With such a gap to performance in reality. Some patches of brilliance in his 1st season when playing HB, but that does not a career make. Certainly not in front of a 3-time premiership player.

I'd like to see Stack somehow make it back but remain skeptical. Possibly, "Not the Messiah; just a naughty boy!" Not sure he's setting the world on fire last two seasons in the seconds - and non-selection bears that out. Looked a little better when sent back last VFL game though. (Sorry for all his fans, but someone had to say it).

I think there may be life left in DRioli yet, hopefully before 2021 is over. Maybe so much success so early - needs to re-ignite his drive.

If last weekends vfl game is any indication, then this will be a big fail. He couldn’t do anything right. Was rightfully playing vfl.
Harsh, was prominent at times and creative by hand but faded out somewhat. Down on form sure, not so much 'a big fail.'

Hey they’ll only be one McJesus ;) .
Absoulute no doubt Stack and Parker don’t have RIolis record , however I think Rioli is miles off the player he was in 2017 , forget Parker was at the Saints , he was drafted because he has a unique set of skills ( Liam Nielsen ) no seriously he has talent , and a real X factor to ad to our forward half and imho he would ad more right now then Rioli would ,Stack for me is a much better footballer then Rioli , however Rioli has played his role much better . Fact is Dimma had seen a problem in Riolis game and is having to reinvent him , the other 2 probably won’t replace him fow a while , I would but that’s just my opinion

I know it has been a while but Rioli has shown he can play very good football at AFL level. We need to find a role he can excel in and he needs to get some form back.

Interesting to see how long Dan is out of the side, from Dimmas comment if they are looking to move him behind the ball then he's gonna be out for a while.

Doesn't need to be. Baker started as a small forward. I think Short started as a forward as well. A lot easier playing behind the ball.

Rioli can play he's talented, he has it, hes done it all, and shown it, and got the T Shirt.

Its got to be an issue above the neck for him moreso than the foot as it seems he's just not up for it, for whatever reason, be it fatigue, burn out, satiety, lack of desire, lack of motivation or other off field distractions the lad has lost his Mojo.

Let him get back to running straight at the footy and having a bit more licence and leeway.

Hopefully he might start enjoying his footy again.

VFL time to learn a new role worked for Caddy. And I think we're looking real hard to find a replacement for Houli, if he goes down this year or doesn't play on next year.

He was living with Dimma and was under the guidance of Mrs Hardwick and Dimma.

He had no distractions.

3 Premierships at such a young age probably sated his desire somewhat as well as the chicks and off field distractions.

If his foot injury was relevant he'd be doing less training and would be being managed alot more than he has over the past 3 seasons I would expect.
Yes there's no doubt he performances were better when he was living with the Hardwick's. He shacked up with the Fevola's is 2018, where he was kicking a different type of goal. :)

Dan needs to add a trick or two , over time he’s lost confidence , rarely backs himself, takes safe handball options instead . He’s quick so use them wheels and work on contested game, so many have gone past him and others should be at least tried
Cmon dan you can do it

Maybe it was an honest conversation with Daniel to say that if he wants to play with Maurice, he needs to find a new position, because Maurice will take his current position.

Rioli hasn't played well since 2017 and the reason he was viewed as a precocious talent back then, was he kicked goals. Having the Rioli name helped too.

Since then he has been exactly the same player, every year, zero improvement - but kicking far less goals.

The half back line move is a good one.

Loved Dan putting on the Jets earlier this year against the cats. Took a ball from a contest on the half back line and accelerated away.
He looked dangerous.
That's the Dan I want. Pace and pressure upfield.

it might be a move that isnt just good for the club but good for him personally to have a new challenge

Also clears the forward line for MoJu. Forward lines can only handle 1 Rioli at a time.

Good move. He needs a freshen up and change in mindset. A different role where he doesn't have to just chase and pressure with a defensive mindset but can be be more attacking and creative with ball in hand will do him good mentally

Met Daniel a couple of years after 17 premiership with injured foot. Was itching to get back playing so had no hunger issues after 17 premiership. Think he has struggled above the shoulders with his own relationships and possibly the fall out of Dimma's break up. He was very, very close to Dimma's family and felt like he was part of it. Absolute ripper of a kid. Have bagged him about his on field woes but is still the type of bloke you want around the club. Has all the skills to be playing in the best 22. Maybe/hopefully the move and challenge may re-ignite the hunger to compete and chase continued success

I am in minds re the point of Dan's move back. Part of me thinks it is just a chance for him to run and play with moee freedom, gets more of the ball and have a bit of a refresh. then he will end up back forward.
But then I look at our small backs- Baker, Short, Houli. none were defenders when they arrived but the club saw traits in them that would make them successful as defenders, and it has worked. (while if memory serves me correct Castagna was a defender?)

whatever the motive, hopefully it works, we will be a better side with a fit and firing Dan Rioli in it.

It's pretty clear that Tiger management gave Rioli a better than fair chance to regain form and he just, for whatever reason struggled to do so. Re-inventing him in the backline is a bit of a kick in the backside and it will be interesting to see how he responds. I'm not personally confident but it's worth a shot as he's been a liability for a while now in the forward line.. He'll get one more shot, otherwise out of contract, there will likely be interest from other clubs. I think he becomes a free agent in 2023 so, if things aren't working, might be a good time to maximise return. He's still only 24yo.
