Welcome to the Tigers - Daniel Rioli

Not sure about all those reckon baker should be dropped. Baker is already handy, he's gonna be a lot more than handy in another season or 2. He's got the potential to be a Robbie Gray style player (maybe not quite that standard but close).

Baker's been close to the best small forward this year. No way was he going to be dropped.

I’m seeing a few fans talk about his selection as if it’s a race thing. Looking forward to when he rips up yet another big game anyway.

Firstly, he’s a gun worthy of automatic selection.

Secondly, he’s a big game player who I would like to see selected for this game even if he was 23rd best (which he’s not) not because of race, but because he would be significantly more likely than others to step up on the night, like he would in a final.

Gun.
Correct on all fronts.

I will expect Rioli to play Lamberts role this week. Mid/half forward. Wouldnt be surprised if saw him in the centre square a few times.

How can anyone question this blokes selection? Still our best pressure forward by a mile and people forget how gutsy he was earlier in the year when he played on after getting his ribs smashed

He has had hits to the body that would’ve knocked others out for a year.
A very important player to our team and its good to see him back in.

Great article on RFC website.
Daniel arrived directly from Melville island to Ballarat, on the same day, wearing shorts, singlet and thongs on a miserable wet and cold 8c. night.
Shows how much of a cultural gap there is and how hard it must be to adapt. And adapt he has.
Cultural linchpin at our club with the younger boys.

Pretty easy really. Just put some thermal underwear, a woolly jumper, pants and moccasins on and your fine.

Coming directly from Melville island, the 8 degrees would feel like -18
Shock to the core

Could have should have kicked 3 tonight.

The snap was his bread and butter, very unlike him to miss.
Does anyone know if the ankle injury he had after the GF is still giving any issues. He isn’t the ‘everyready’ player this year

Physical battering can shake your confidence a bit. See what happens but a few weeks in 2s wouldn't kill him. Or he could explode in ones. Who knows.

This is why he stays as much as anything. When Castagna was stinking it up in front of goals his fans were still giving him credit by saying 'well at least he gets to goal scoring situations'. Rioli kicks three goals last night and for a small forward he gets a massive pass. He didn't but you have to back him in because we know how good he can be.
