Welcome to Richmond - Jayden Short

Well, as as been said several times by several posters, we are overloaded with HBF-Wing types.
If something is repeatedly repeated on here it must be true i guess, but do we really have more than other clubs? if so are we lacking talls or inside mids?

I was talking to Scoop, or spook, or spoon or whatever his name is.
First time you've got me, I'll pass him the keyboard.

*COUSIN SPOOK, COME A RUNNIN, THAT REDFROD WANTS TO TALK TO YA ON THE INTERNET PHONE ON PUNT ROAD"

He has been lamented on here as not being a mid, I think he's best as a back flanker or wing. But there's too many PRE favourites who occupy those roles for PRE to consider him and option. I think we need to find a way to have Short on a wing rolling back and helping the back six and being an outlet. It's time for K-Mac to go.
Or we move Daniel back forward and have Baker and Short down back. We have too many like types. If you trade Short, you are trading our major point of difference in an area that we are so bad in , kicking. Then you have to find a way to get Brown and Banks into this mix. They are competing for these roles as well. It's a mess.
I am all for Short in the mid when paired up with 2 inside mids ie. Two of Prestia, Hopper or Tarranto. He adds an element of difference.

Shorty's heat map very interesting.
Eyes told me he spent most of his time in defence & the data confirmed it.
After a foray into the midfield (still thru there occassionally) I think this has been a really good coaching move to put him back in the position he's played his best footy.
We've been having trouble clearing the ball out of there but he's very adapt at that. Hope this shift continues.

Great connector for us from the back half, leave him there. What was his starting point on Saturday? Did he line up as a winger or purely a defender?

No great shock but the ball use has looked significantly better with Short back in the side.

He started in defence but definitely pushed up the ground at times as the extra mid.

At times West Coast put a spare in defence. They moved a winger back and a forward up to the midfield so they had a spare in defensive 50. We sometimes played a spare in defence and sometimes pushed our spare defender up to the edge of forward 50. It got noted in the group I was watching with in teh 2nd quarter and we sort of monitored it from then onwards. It was really noticeable when there were stoppages in the midfield as we clearly had a spare defender (Nick normally) for most of the second half.

Their spare was often Jayden Hunt.

I flagged this as a possibility a week ago.

Send Baker to DRiolis role and move DR forward.
His got his confidence back and his foot gives him no issues. With him there it might do wonders playing with his uncle MRJ???

We still have some kids I want to see that could provide us an injection of enthusiasm and hope.

Let’s see what changes are made this week and how we run out Saturday against WC.
I reckon there’s warrant here. He is the best proven small forward we have. Can there be a rotation with Baker during games so these guys don’t starve? Two Riolis in the fwd line could provide output greater than its parts.

This year Rioli has been taken out of the game by the bad guys, to no surprise.
But it completely stalls our movement.
Again on Saturday the Prince was down (still working hard)
But with Short working back we got a new release

Interesting that everyone thought he played more in defense, stats show he attended 44% of the center bounces on Saturday so clearly still a starting center square option in Dimma's mind.
