Welcome to Richmond - Jayden Short

Might get sub duties this round. Ideally he'd play Magoos then return as sub but we're out of depth. The sub role is a cuddle. Short could turn a game with that luxury.

Nah Jack. Straight back into the 22. Should start off half back.

Why should he play HBF again? It's not our rebound that is the issue, It's our defensive performance in the back half. It's our lack of pressure of the ball in transition. He will not improve us defensively.

He should be used through the wing, middle, forward of the ball, hopefully can improve our efforts going into our F50. Personally, I don't want him in a D50, he's a liability defensively.

Our ball movement coming out of the backline has been pretty... ordinary, this season. Short may be able to help us get past wing.

I agree typically he shouldnt be play down back- and i reckon in our premiership winning team he doesnt, but we are struggling to move the ball out of our backline at the moment- whether it a Balta handball getting intercepted, a Grimes kick floating over a team mate, or a Ralphsmith kick going out on the full. Short isnt the most reliable kick, but i reckon it might be worth a shot this week, in Ralphsmith's place.

At the very least Short coming from the back half will clear the ball much further out of defense, we actually lack a long and powerful kick from the backhalf. Rioli is a wonderful 40-metre kick, picks out angles but he doesn't kick the ball low and long anything over 45 comes with height. Baker is the same not as precise as Rioli as Short but maybe the best kick of the three over 25 when he is on. When he is off, he is awful. Short punches it long and low and gives the defense time to set up again. We need that right now. I think he comes back into the same role he left. Wing/Forward of centre.

Agreed and I think people misunderstand the role Short plays. He plays on the defensive side of stoppage for a reason, its the sweeper role, where he looks for the handball receive from the stoppage and then kicks it long. Its something we haven't done well this season, but when we do we look so good as we can open up teams very easily. Its been evident in the weeks he hasn't played, that the players replacing him have been going for the handball or short kick, whereas Short takes territory.

I don't think he was really playing forward of centre, it was back of the stoppage and up onto the wing which is Shorty's spot and for me he does it very well. Under rated on here by many.

Short has always been extremely undervalued on PRE.

No surprises we've been so poor without him.

He's a big in for us.

We have desperately missed his outside run and long kicking. The problem is we need two of him. One off half back and one in the midfield/wings.

I wasn't altogether bagging Short, SA. Just thinking he might get the cuddle. And could turn a match from there.

As to Short replacing established geniuses like The Prince and even Slippery Baker, I'm inclined to think they hold their positions.

My take is that Short is, when in form, a class above Jack "The Haircut" Ross.

7th defender Jack. Our ball movement from half back can sometimes look like we have Justin Longmuir as coach.

He handed them a goal or two (I'll credit rust for those) and missed one he should kick but overall a good game back in his old sweeping role.
