Welcome to Richmond - Jayden Short

Short could easily kick 40 goals this year given what we have in the midfield now.

Pair those three with Balta, Grimes and Vlossy, and it's not too bad.

Miller slides into the rotation. Short spends minutes in the midfield.

I reckon Carltank would be pretty happy with that setup in Rnd 1.

I don't profess to be an expert, but I dont see Shorty as a winger. He doesn't create enough in the midfield. So his only spot is HB.

As someone who was a real Short fan not long ago, I think the club made a big mistake in giving him that long contract.

Now, I think this because since getting the five years, Short has really appeared to have gotten into a cruise/ figjam mode way too much. If he had to fight for his position more, I think we could see him getting back to his best once more.

5 years was a big mistake his replaceable and I still maintain should have been trade bait.

I think those detractors are selling him down the river.
He has given such great service to this club and hopefully will do so for the foreseeable future

The dissecting in this thread of some of Shorts challenges this year is excellent analysis.

Just because you disagree doesn't make it wrong. ;)

Is Short above criticism?

These are valid points about some of the discussion but there's also plenty of outlying rubbish that isn't based on anything like fact.

Because:

Short had most disposals, most inside 50s and most kicks for us last year. Averaged 24.4 disposals last year just behind Prestia on 24.8. Also averaged more kicks per game and inside 50s per game than any other player in our list last year.

Not in our best 22? Please..

Not to mention he has been 1st, 7th and 7th in the past 3 Best and Fairest. Any suggestion he isn't in the best 22 is like arguing the world is flat.

I don’t think the question that he is in our best 22 but the question is what position is he best suited to and whom does he replace?

Quiet funny reading this dissection of a Feb match simulation for Short and everything he did wrong when the poster boy Rioli barely touched leather. It’s Feb match sim but the intellectual footy folk have spoken so that’s that. Not worried about either.

when the poster boy Rioli barely touched leather.

This will cause some froth but there's no question in my mind if you ran a fantasy scenario where every spot in the side was filled apart from 1 half back and Rioli and Short are left, Rioli is popping on the dew slippers.

Rioli has a smaller body of work in the backline but is an infinitely better footballer than Short.
Will end up with two or more AA’s by the time he’s finished.
His trajectory is straight up.
Long love the Prince.

Not sure what people are complaining about

Its not Jayden's fault the coaches are trying something new with some new inside mids coming into the team and he will be tried in other roles because he has the talent to hurt the opposition.

Im Happy to see Short as being the player that Tarranto , Hopper , Cotchin , Prestia get the ball out to for a 50-60 mtr kick into our foward line and drift up to hff and put pressure on the other teams defence with his long kicking

I have ben told that Short's contract was amazing value for the club, signing for significantly less than what he could have got elsewhere.

If this is true, I have no issue with it and praise his loyalty.

Personally I would have Short before Rioli in my team ATM.Reckon Rioli needs more work around defensive one on one.Short gets a lot of the ball and kicks long.Sure if he misses targets 10 per cent of the time,90 per cent of his 440 kicks last year just cannot be ignored.

If we can’t express opinions what are we here for? Why talk about the North game at all if it meant nothing? Of course it’s relevant, especially with positioning and wondering what the match committee is thinking. Taranto gets massive raps for playing well, so a lesser game such as Short’s can be discussed surely.
Where do you think he should play?

Not sure I’ve ever said no one cant have a view point?

Short is a ripper player trying to adjust to a new role (midfielder).

If he does, look out. His kicking is excellent and if he adapts to the role, he will be a magnificent addition.

If he doesn’t having 3 gun HBFs to choose from each week is a delicious prospect.

Don’t be down on Shorty. He is trying to do what both Vloss and Rioli failed to do, become consistent midfield players.
