Welcome to Richmond Chris Yarran

So now we enter the silly season where we take some consolation from heavy losses through enhanced draft picks... We also now see the price we paid for Yarran with an early second rounder off to Princes Park for absolutely no return.
Pot the decision but get the facts correct
GC not Carlton get the pick

There seem to be a heck of a lot of posters with intimate knowledge of Yarran's state of mind and intentions.

Here's my two cents, based purely on observation from a distance: Chris Yarran is born to play football. He's happiest when playing football. He's diverted from that path over the past year but he's back training. I can only take that as good news.

Yep. Fingers crossed.
A fit Yarran makes any team better.

Don't lament too hard. He would still be playing under Hardwick's concervative, slow, take minimal risks, minimal work-rate\run game plan. He'd be running into brick walls with no support or options. In fact, he might of even become a whipping boy this year due to our totally sh!te style of play.

True.
But maybe, just maybe Yarran and Houli would break the lines, hit up a leading tall (on their first lead, not their fifth) opening the game in dangerous areas and releasing others to run.
Inspiring the currently stifled runners Edwards, Rioli, Menadue etc

Instead we get stodgy Vlaustin, B Ellis, Hunt all instructed to not take the game on, instead go backwards/sideways or accept a tackle and stoppage ......over and over and over

I have a dream ...........

Houli is not an elite kick and his first seven games this year and the one on Saturday were not the stuff of highlight reels.

So suggesting that he and Yarran would have made the difference is drawing a long bow.

Yes, good points, could add McIntosh to that group also. We would definitely get more movement and run with all those in the side but the fact would still remain, we're not manic with our work-rate, both with the ball and when we don't have the ball. We don't get enough numbers and close down the opposition quick enough when we dont have the ball when we're defending, ala the bulldogs (plus our tackling is woeful) & obviously with the ball which has been spoken about ad nauseam, we don't provide enough options for our team mate with the ball, no running in numbers, presenting enough, etc....Look at the Bullies, GWS, Saints...they play in the right manner both offensively and defensively & all have overtaken us.

It's like watching a Rugby team. I hate that game.

Yarran has been a great pick up for the Tigers this year. No games, no input, full pay. Maybe I am being pessimistic but I doubt whether we will see him in Tigers colours next season either.
I wonder what dud our recruitment team will find for us for 2017.

Make a stand and just pay him out and get rid of him.
Disgraceful recruiting. Imagine if we got Bennell too.

Yeah spewing we did get Bennell in stead...

As Ive mentioned before this will go down as possibly the worst trade not only in Richmond's history but AFL history.

It's a wonder that there isn't some clause in the contract that if you "play no games in a season due to 'personal issues' you will receive X% of the agreed contract amount" kinda thing...

Maybe there is.

Jake Carlisle comes to mind. And St Kilda could also throw up Andrew Lovett for good measure.

Brisbane's trade for Fev was pretty skilled trading. I am sure Crazy Vossy had a few other pearlers.

?? worst ever in AFL history? Perspective? Read widely? Close observer of the game?

Yep, for further examination of the Stephen O'Reilly trade, look no further than Weaver's immortal post from Bigfooty back in the day:

"Worst trade ever?

That's easy. Pick 16 and 46 for Stephen O'Reilly who played 12 games for you. AND you had to pay him illegally outside the cap. AND he blew the whistle on you. AND you had to pay a fine. AND you got kicked out of the draft and had to recruit hacks. AND it meant that your mulit-million investment in Denis Pagan was a waste because he had no players.

Stephen O'Reilly for - Pick 16, pick 46, $1m fine, pick 1, 2, 17 and 33 in the 2003 draft, pick 1 in the 2003 PSD, 1st and 2nd round picks in the 2004 draft."

Think that's got the Yarran trade comfortably covered.

Depends on whether he ends up playing 100 games for us, or has another season like this one. Can you tell us where that will finish us nostradamus?
