Welcome Sam Naismith

A
This may have been posted before but gives a good idea of what to expect albeit at the lower level.

What I do like about him is that he's a genuine ruckman. Bloody strong under the ball.
Sure it's a short term solution & his knee issues are a worry but Soldo too had a knee to worry about.

It's wishful thinking & my expectations are low but I sure hope it works out..
Actually taps to advantage

Naismith is a good footballer.
Dont be middle by his career games, which are low solely due to serious injury.
this kid can play
He's 31 isn't he? hardly rates as a kid any more. Might very well be a reasonably decent player, the problem though is his career fragility. Seems very likely that he's one of those types that can bang along reasonably fit at a lower level, but struggles to get that last few % of fitness required for the elite level without breaking down. A full pre season should show us whether he'll survive or not.

Agree he's not a kid. I was taking a lend.
But he's had knee recos, which isnt fragility or inability to cope with the fitness demands.
Reckon he goes alright this year and plays 18+ games (vfl or afl)

There's a pic doing the rounds of Naismith v Kosi from the Vfl Port V Box Hill.
Funny how the footballing Gods work.
One minute fierce combatants.
Next, bestest buddies and teammates.

I know gloves are controversial but no reason Naismith couldn't play in one of these. He should be eligible for a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

Back from reality to La La Land for a moment - IF Naismith could get on the park he might make an entertaining test for Soldo.

If I was an umpire I wouldnt pay too many free's against him...just saying. He is a beast.

Great article / story.
Another quality human thru the door.
If he gets a game, it'll be an unreal comeback to the top level.
And watch out oppo - there won't be too many holds barred - he sounds seriously hungry.
Another thing to look forward to in Season 2024.

I am not always over impressed by signing on other clubs delisted player but Sam is a bit different as his problem was more injury prone than skill set. That said, if Sam can give us the service in his position that Ricky Pettard gave us in his position then I will count him a success with us

Is Sam a back up for Nank or does he get games as second ruck ahead of Ryan?

Ryan is going to need snr footy to improve.

What if Naismith is contributing more than Nankervis??

We watch with interest..

The very reason I would rather have seen a different captain.
Nank could then be rested for games as well. They won't rest you as much if your captain.
