Welcome Sam Banks

Agree. Had a couple of good moments, had some not so good.

But enough to want to see him again. The type is there, is he good enough? Let’s find out.

Yeah it was almost like we were watching a bloke playing his first game of footy!! Geez some of the scribes on here are tough.

He had some not so good moments and some good ones as you say. They like him kicking the footy, was given some of the kickouts due to it. His defensive spoil to stop that Buddy chance in the 3rd was very good.

Keep going with him.

Can't believe they forced the kid to play in the back pocket all game.
Didn't give him an opportunity to display any of his qualities.
McQuackQuack didn't do him any favours

If we organised a bunch of moving targets to test the disposal skills of AFL players Sam Banks would be at least a genius.

Tonight he played actual football and he was the worst user in history.

Very immature. The only way is up.

He looked terrified when manned on Papley, poor kid.

Zips, you and I don't often disagree. But may I ask you - If back pocket is too hard, should we have played him Consul RimJob to the Lawless Chasm of Mars?

As always. Real life looks different in technicolour.
No doubt he adjusts. Starts running at 24 frames per sec. He will get to 60 FPS.
The question is will he furnish?
Small lad. Needs to play hardball. Real life has real monsters

I suspect the plans for him were thrown out by Bauer going off and Ross coming in.
He is a natural winger and I was disappointed not to see him play wing.
The kid played his first game and showed a bit. Needs to play next week

It was close your eyes stuff early. Mistakes that led to goals. Looked very nervous.
That said he worked into the game & was better the second half. Great for him to be part of a stirring win too.
He’ll probably get another game. Agree he’ll have learned more from last night than ten VFL games.

Also will be good to see what he can do with less distractions and nerves next week on the road. Hopefully we can see his elite kicking skills in action.

Had a bit of a mare early, that happens , after that I thought he looked an AFL player
Yep, went up a few notches in 2nd half. Loved his commitment to harass Buddy when running into an open goal. Saved a goal for us.

Wasn't a stand out debut, but did enough to get another run. Much better debut than Ryan's

Kids taken his first couple of steps at AFL level, of course he was gunna have a few wobbles n land on his arse a couple of times as well. But what an experience for the young bloke, gets to chase n harass against a champion of the game and save an obvious goal. Gets to play on an electric goal sneak like Papley for a bit and best of all gets to play in a massive hard working come from behind last gasp victory in trying conditions as well.
Massive night for the young fella.

Dont think so. It was Pickett who moved to give Ross his wing back.
Banks was always part of the back 7.

Some fool suggested a Dean Polo like debut. they werent far off. It was a debut like Polo's career- ordinary, but Banks's career will be more like Polo's debut- great.

Having just watched the replay, he was nowhere near as bad as what I thought watching at the ground last night. Yes he did make a couple of errors but didn’t drop head at any stage. A couple of “errors” were on the back of some skill/decision errors from teammates who have been around a lot longer. Glass half full for me.

He is young and still in the crucial learning phase so dropping him after one match could harm his development. He grew into the game for me and suspect should he play next week (I hope he does) then my guess is we will see a far different player. Mini seems to have different ideas to Dimma and doesn't drop players so quickly

They mentioned on the tv coverage last night that Sam's dad played over 500 games. They showed the Woodsdale footy ground where Sam and his dad played a lot of their footy, what a great, scenic ground.

I googled the ground and came across this incredible football score. Sam's dad kicked 13 goals, but wasn't leading goal kicker for the day. Eighteen players from the side kicked goals.
Quite a few of the players have the same surnames as former Richmond players.

I love Dan Riolis reaction to Banks spoiling that chance to Buddy over the goal line towards the city end. Ran at him with his arms out wide, was celebrating like it was a goal for us, and I guess in a way it was.
