Welcome Judson Clarke

Maybe in part, because they’re getting very little support from established players.
Yep there’s a few of our Premiership lads who are really struggling, however it’s not them who will make us Premiership contenders again , it’s the cubs who have to lift to that level , are they good enough ? Only time will tell

They do have to rise, but it’s much harder to progress when you’re not getting the support from the established guys. We know this well. How many promising young players didn’t make it in those 37 years between flags?

How long did it take for Cotch, Dusty, Jack, Sir A, Grimes and Shed to lift to that level? It does take a long time, with a few surprise successes and failures along the way, and no guarantees the pieces will all fit at the same time..

After watching Papley waltz straight through him last night and run into an open goal, I wouldn’t have him anywhere near the backline until he bites down on his mouth guard and shows some defensive intent… he’ll be a player but needs to work on a few things which is understandable given his age and experience… hopefully getting the coaching he needs to be a two way player.

Definitely takes most a while , not to many Nick Daicos’s , I just hope most of our cubs make the grade otherwise it might be a while until we are complaining about Tiketek for GF tickets , because it appears a lot of our old champs are getting old

Juddy and the cubs were the biggest disappointments for me last night , need them to take steps now , in saying that keep playing them , they can play
Nah. There was a bunch of very experienced senior players far more disappointing for mine. The young blokes are there to learn the game n try to help out as much as possible. It aint their job to try and carry the can for senior players.
Most times clubs might have two or three extremely inexperienced players in the side at one time. We had nine against the Swannies, way to many to expect consistent performance from them.

Papley's built like a little brick *smile* house, he gets moving he runs through plenty of would be tacklers. Plenty of way more experienced and stronger players failed to stick tackles once again during this match.
Kids simply need some time n development instead of us hanging *smile* on them.

Some posters will look very silly in 3 years time.
Even more silly than they are now. If that’s possible.
Everyone should cast their minds back to Edwards and bite down hard on their lips before talking about delisting, won’t make it, embarrassing etc.

So true. The bagging of Clarke and some of our other young players is just embarrassing.

Shedda's a great example and not just for the footballing part. When he started he was a skinny curly haired kid. At the end he could hurt with his body: just ask Hopper.

Judson is still a nice boy with ability. One day he'll become a man, and maybe a grumpy hurty one.

He won't like that replay being shown. Let's hope he learns you need to play the game switched on at all times. Half-hearted attempts don't cut it against the intensity the likes of Papley play with.

Yep, hopefully he learns from that. If he can build on that defensive aspect he’ll be a player.

Will disagree on this one TM , though I hear what your saying , we all know what our Premiership players have been able to do and just about all of them are past their best , for us to win more flags it’s the cubs I want to see doing well , not so much winning games but showing that they have the talent to be the next Dynasty , I may be writing the season of a bit quick with that attitude , however that’s just what I’m looking at this year since we have so many key players out or about to clock out

Given his age (17 Oct DOB) I assess him as pretty much a first year player in 2023. Child. Midget.

Was getting a hiding on Saturday against the reigning GF victims. Racing in strong company. But lifted and kicked a crucial goal.

Looks pretty good?

The cubs will need to lift...............in time.

They are 2nd year players and need the more experienced players dragging them along with them. As others have said, they are essentially extras and our main cast are well below what they are capable of.

Yes those premiership lads are past their best BUT Jack showed what those older players what they should be capable of, they are still capable of their best, but they won't be anywhere near as consistent as in their prime. Thats the thing, other than Jack which of our aging players performed anywhere near their best.

Martin - Nope, maybe getting 30% of Dustin Martin. We should be getting 60-70% of prime Dusty
Vlastuin - He's awful at the moment, Career worst form
Grimes - Not as bad as Vlastuin but performing poorly
Cotchin - Hasn't got near the ball the last 2 weeks
Pickett - Still does things ok but not involved enough - would love to see him in the midfield or half back to provide some spark
Prestia - Has been poor this year, seemed to be getting back to his best in the 1st half then rolled something and was poor in the 2nd
McIntosh - Been ok
Jack - Was good

If we got anywhere near a few of these playing to what we would expect of them (not their prime but their current best) then we would be doing a lot better and not talking about 2nd year players dragging us along.

If we are expecting 2nd year players to be some of our better players then forget this year (and probably the next 5) as they are going to be very hard to watch.

Nine kids all with less than 25 games under the belt. At this stage all they're going to give you is flashes n glimpses at best, yet you suggested disappointment that they didn't stand up n perform competently. Yet you're willing to accept that our fully matured and finals experienced players no longer perform to their previously proven abilities. WTF ???? If a 34 year old 300 plus gamer can stand up n put in with a split head what's the excuse for the rest of the mature players? They're still getting paid, they still need to perform up to a certain standard not down to what they can fudge by with.
