Welcome Josh Gibcus

Meehan takes his first soft tissue scalp, and it's a biggin.
he had to ruin the year of the most promising draftee we've had in years didn't he?!

Let's hope Josh isn't one of those blokes that just doesn't have a body suited to AFL footy.

Just so we are all clear, the initial injury wasn’t just a “hammy”. He tore the tendon off the bone which required surgery to repair. He then suffered a post-op infection that set back his recovery.

This was not a regulation soft tissue injury and the recovery has very likely been impacted by the infection. Yet somehow, it’s all Meehan’s fault?

Pretty *smile* stiff

To buy in hopper and taz to win one last flag,

And lose our FF and FB for the whole season

Stiff!

With such a ballistic leap and been such a huge part of his game , this injury is a huge worry going forward for both Josh and the club .

Having next to no KPP coming through , especially the essential A Grade talent you need to win flags , I’d say this injury is as important long term as Lynch’s foot is for the short term

Finally draft a decent first rounder, who stood out in his first year in an area we desperately needed top end talent.....and this happens.

FU Footy gods.

This has been stated many times already but people still post "how does a hamstring injury keep him out all year"

Even so, been a terrible year for the kid.

I think most people understand that - thats still not a season long injury - most players who do that are back in 10-12, maybe 15 being ultra conservative. He missed 6-7 weeks of preseason plus the entire 24 week seasons proper - that not normal for this injury and people have a right to ask questions

I agree we are right to ask questions, just that we need to not pre-empt the answers.

Clearly there have been issues with Gibcus' rehab, what was the situation and how do we best prevent this in the future?

It is always worth looking at how you do things and sometimes a new voice can help, but that assessment needs to be made when you have all the facts.

You know for a fact that it's Meehan's fault, or are you just looking for someone to blame?

Very true. That’s where the Club could come to the party with a full explanation of what has happened and where he is at going forward. People will fill the gaps of knowledge with negative thoughts. It’s human nature a bit.

Grimey Grimes (touch wood) had shocking hammy's. Theres hope for Gibcus as he is so young and add this to the fact that surgically repaired proximal hamstring tendons have a low reccurence rate of tears (think under 2%) he should be fine.

Not all posters are asking questions- many are calling for sackings.

A lot of Surgeons and medical staff on PRE. Do you think Benny and Co. would employ a bloke who is not up to it?

Did we actually do this….lol

He has been sent overseas to help with the injury. He is going on a program to help him fully recover and to limit any re occurrence of the hamstring injury.
Fingers crossed he is back for the start of the presesson.

Adam Treloar recently said his hamstring tendon injury, was a 2 year recovery before he has the movement he had pre injury.
