VFL 1st Qualifying Final V Essendon

There is some serious jumping the gun posting going on here on the basis of one game.
Naish has dominated at vfl level all year and will poll really well in the Liston imo. Similarly Turner has been very good and is still 18 years old !
Every now and again you see what the future is with RCD. The game he plays with his frame needs a pre season or two, plenty of upside with this kid.
All of them had relatively poor games today but those who have watched a bit of vfl won’t be writing them off.

There was a lot of serious jumping the gun up to 3/4 time too

Pickett is easily AFL quality if he gets really fit. It's been a massive change for him, fingers crossed he settles in well and gets a great pre-season in. Can seriously play.

Ross is a bulldozer but he had some real sloppy disposal.

CCJ is gonna be a player. Wish he was a couple of inches taller as he's undersized in comparison to the leading ruckman. But has some game.

Choi is worth persisting with. Could all click and be a valuable contributor.

McIntosh, don't know what's happened to him since the first half of this year but he is no chance of returning to the seniors this campaign.

Menadue is just Menadue. Reckon he will get picked up by another club, don't see him getting much of a run with us anytime soon unless Houli retires.

Naish, don't see what everyone sees in him. Lacks intensity. Reminds me of Lennon in that regard.

RCD needs a lot of time.

Turner looks very ordinary.

Weller tries hard, Naish could learn about intensity from him. Lacks polish though.

Butler was back to his poaching best. May yet have a role if a small forward goes down.

Aarts, really like him, talented with upside still. Could play seniors next year.

Garth is a real solid VFL footballer. Awful kicking style but jeez he has a go. Lack of athleticism will prevent him playing a lot of AFL with us.

Moore, pity he couldn't give Garth his athletic ability. Can't see him making it with us.
Pretty spot on

I was looking for his series of post on the VFL area but now have found it so thanks to all the posters who have given reports on the match. It seems as though there are a number of players trying hard for a spot in the firsts for next week

What a game !

So poor for three quarters but after I heard Fly speak at the last change and tell the boys to be brave, take the game on , leave nothing- I thought if we get within distance the pressure will mount on Essendon.

Nank played a huge huge last quarter. He overtook Chol for mine and plays Saturday unless he pulls up sore. He looked like he was running on top of the ground.

Pickett showed his class and courage in the second half. That mark and goal in the 3rd showed me he could still be a wildcard.

Butler staked a claim if Shai has a poor game Saturday.

Morris huge in the last.

What a turnaround in the last. The midfield which was slaughtered for 3 quarters lifted in the last on the back of Nank the Tank!

Can’t wait to watch the last quarter.

Got my Tiger fix for this week now for Saturday against the premiership favourites the Lions!

Will post some pics.

RCD played like towner a fair bit.

he could turn into a real tough *smile*.

How good was that.
Those plastic tough guys, lost their pep when the tide turned.
A special mention to Stevie Morris, i've got a heap of respect for him, he's a tiger through and through :clap2

You are spot on about RCD. He is bloody tough. There was one passage of play where he thorough himself into a contest. No fear what so ever.

And yes we all lover Towner. He would have been a Jack Dyer favourite.

I've seen a few VFL games and Naish is no doubt a smart footballer with nice skills. But to me he lacks the intensity/approach to take the next step. His attitude and intensity reminds me of Corey Ellis and Ben Lennon. Hope I'm wrong.

Give me footballers with skill and intensity any day - eg Baker. And look at Pickett. He just screams AFL footballer.

I see Aarts having a better chance of an AFL career than Naish.

Turner didn't have any impact, I don't think you can just use age as an excuse. He looked like he was going half pace every time I saw him. Again, hope I'm wrong.

Great post, waiting
What a game, eh.
Fly threw caution to the wind.
If you believe, and with a bit of faith, it might just ALL be possible.
Nank was the difference in the end. Great last quarter.
Glad you mentioned Morris. The old warrior was just that ... a determined warrior putting it on the line every contest he went to. A real skipper's game.
Pickett will be a wildcard, but reckon it might be 2020 now (barring injuries).
Butler's goals will have done his confidence the world of good, but the Tigers will be going okay if they don't have to call upon him during September.
I, too, will enjoying a replay of the last quarter of today's VFL game.
Go Tigers

I generally don't post very often on game day threads but I do enjoy reading them after we've won, stay away a few days if we lose.

I have an empty Ignore List so the come-from-behind games like today and the WCE one are made even more enjoyable.

Bomberblitz is also a good read today.

Was at the game. There was absolutely nothing to like for 3/4. Nothing was going right and no one was standing up. Last quarter was all about Nanks, Morris, Pickett. Hard to be enthusiastic but Chol and CCJ were 4 quarter contributors. Others not even close but 4th quarter completely different story.
Awesome win against all odds

I wasn’t using Turner’s age as an excuse for a quiet game today. My point is to those who seem to question an 18 year old kid who has had a very good initial season on the basis of one game. I reckon the club would be delighted with his development this year, especially considering he missed about 8 weeks with injury.
IMO anyone who has watched vfl live a bit this year wouldn’t put Naish in the same basket as CEllis or Lennon. He has two things neither had which is decent pace and the ability to run hard all day. He didn’t look out of place at all in his two afl games either. He had a poor game today, it’s probably the only poor game he has had all season.
