VFL 1st Qualifying Final V Essendon

Cant really carry RCD and English again. I'd play Riley because he has a chance. Remember we are also carrying Turner and on yesterday's form Naish (who should both play)

Ballard for English and Beasley for Miller. Not good for English either to continue to be exposed, cant do his confidence much good.

Soldo was dropped for finals in 2017 because of team balance. He seems to have developed OK.

Beaten in and around the contest.
Didn’t think defence was our problem yesterday.
They continually won clearances. Also played a man behind the contest who continually swept up.
Number 38 for Essendon reminded me of Naughton when we played Bulldogs earlier this year. Marked everything whereas our talls got hands to many contests but couldn’t hold their marks. Nanks gave us first use in the last and that’s when the game turned.

Geelongs vfl win years back with its youngsters was the catalyst for a dynasty...

Huge difference. They had Ablett, Bartel ,Kelly Chapman & Bos all coming through together
We have the likes of Mackie, Tenance, Thurley, Prismal coming through.

Besides Coleman Jones maybe Turner, Maybe Naish, maybe CD
The cupboard is bare.

McEvoy, but not as fat or slow. Better leap, longer arms, more hit-outs.

Watched CCJ really closely, especially in the last. He was still full of run and vigour right till the very end. He’s also smarter than McEnvoy. Some really clever work and is also very good below his knees.

Exactly Taz but it is a question of development v winning. Both English and Miller should not play as they are inferior to the VFL alternatives (at this time), We needed Beasley, Ballard and some other handy mids and runners like Silvestro.

Tricky call for the PF but I would at least bring in the vice captains.
Whilst i do agree we need to play the AFL listed guys over anyone else regardless of the results.

Dont like quoting my own posts but I believe it was a mistake to leave ,JB, Beas & Silver out
Development of AFL guys still a priority over a VFL win, even in a final.

Depending on our AFL results and fixturing, a few more AFL listed boys may be kept aside in subsequent weeks. Ballard etc will be the first ones back in. And, yes, that will strengthen the core.

Just watched the last quarter - pretty amazing comeback, the bumbers didn’t know what hit them in the end. They were playing for next week in that last quarter and we made em pay.

Great win and great comeback. Admit I tuned in early in the second to get a score and it was starting to look ugly.

Nank was BOG in the last qtr - surely he plays next week.

Most of the first year players performed well under the level , hopefully a good learning experience about the step up in intensity with finals footy , jack Ross stepped up last Q. The ess players running amok earlier on were all seasoned vfl veterans

Yes I was going to say McEvoy but my hesitation is that he is more athletic than big boy.

He needs to learn more ruck craft and when he does look out.

he needs to learn to get out of Marlions way too
