Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

The old cliche "commonsense" comes to mind YET AGAIN for me. In last nights game in the SAME passage of play 2 umpires called for different frees to the 2 teams ( quite hilarious really). Now instead of saying " we both saw different infringements" ( not forgetting it was the SAME passage of play), "lets admit it all confusing and have a ball up".... NO they decide to "pluck" one of the frees and call that particular one.

I saw that and hate to take the umpires side but I thought they made the right call. IF I recall one umpire called a free against Mitchell the second against a West Coast player. The Mitchell free against occured first he called a push against him which forced the West Coast player to then push another Hawthorn player which the second umpire saw and called.

see my earlier post. overadjudiating. making calls for the sake of making calls. interpreting it wrong becauase they have to make calls.

clearly this is an AFL/Geichen mandate - umps get involved more than they should. way more.
irritating.

spot on.

why wasn't interchange infringement paid aginst Rodam in 3rd quarter.

He ran on ground still in green vest. They realised they hadn't red vested anyone and whipped him back off.

Then one of there guys got injured. So they held Rodan back until they got th other guy off and red vested.

So ROdan was actually on the field at the same time as the red vest guy.

I thought Rodan went to get the footy that was on the ground....still was vested so doesn't count.

Good idea! Unfortunately I can see us getting screwed by the umpires again - particularly the new sliding rule. Stevie Morris will get pinged for at least one very soft free right in front of the Carlton goals.

I'd actually like to see a free paid against players who deliberately duck the head and charge into another player; sadly this act usually sucks the umps in. Unless it's one of our players of course.

Consistent umpiring please, although hopefully we're in control of the game so dubious umpiring doesn't affect the result.

I really feel for the umpires trying to police that sliding rule. Thought Dal Santo and Stevie J summed up the players dislike for it pretty well on TFS last night.
Players will abuse it in preference to hunting the ball themselves, you can bet your life on it.
Worst rule change that I can remember and it's has some competition.
Nanna Bartlett needs to go.

I think we will see at least 3 goals to Calton directly from this rule. Rance is a monty for one also

Wasn't a hard game to umpire though. Hardly any real contests all night.

The new rule put paid to that, thought adelaide were hesitant about attacking the ball which played perfectly into essendon's seagul game style.
Fremantle are another go hard at the ball team, will watch tonight with interest to see if it effects the way they play.

Spot on, more like the Clayton's cup. Davey actually thinks his a footballer after last nights performance

Lets face it those in charge want to turn the game into a form of basketball any player that is on his knees fighting for the ball will be free kicked.

think it'll impact us a bit. rance, morris, tuck, conca dive on the ball often and will give away frees as a result. the problem with this rule is that the robots will call all incidents where a player goes low for the ball near an opponent, even if there's no hint of dangerous play. they will, as usual, become whistle happy. the umps will cop some abuse from this rule.

like many other rule changes, the intent behind the rule is ok, but the application will likely be too heavy handed. having said that i didnt think the umps did made any wrong calls last night.
