Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Ok

I have finally been able to see the game.

Firstly it sounded a lot worse than it looked, so far I am starting to agree that the boys are tired and they did their best, Batch did have a shocker son far.
I will take a close look at the second half now.

Poor umpiring decisions as follows

1st QTR

Not paid

Brogen push on Miller in ruck.
King taken high

Paid incorrectly

None

2nd QTR

Not paid

GWS

Conca holding ball
Corned pushed in back

Rich

Power kick OB deliberate
Edwards Goal not reviewed
Kicking in danger on jack
King taken High

paid incorrectly

Batch on cameron for a goal
batch deliberate OB
King HB

So in the first half I saw

GWS miss out on 2 free kicks that were there
Richmond missed 6 free kicks that were there.
Richmond gave away 3 free kicks not there, 1 resulted in a goal.

11 poor decisions in first half.

TBC

Ok

3rd QTR

Soft free's Paid

50m on Batch
High contact on power
hands in back mcdonald

all 3 against Tigers

Not Paid

Rich

Edwards held and in back
Batch taken high

GWS

edwards trips edwards
Connors 50m on Cornes

So

In 3 Qtrs of footy

18 poor decisions

Rich 14
GWS 4

If that aint Bias, i don't know what is.

The final qtr to come.

Jamo, can I ask what the 50m against Connors should have been for? Cornes clearly played on and was over his mark as opposed to Connors going over the mark.

It was soft but there, ump didn't call play on, technically should have been 50m, i'm trying to be unbiased :hihi

Are your comments assumed or substantiated, ARE YOU MATT STEVIC?

Is there anywhere that tells you which umpires gave the frees?

Ok

last QTR

In the back on grig soft
chopping arms Houli soft

Not paid

Conca bumped high
Cotchin crunched from behind

so in all 22 bad decisions

I may have missed a couple, or some of my opinions will differ.

18 against the tigers
4 against GWS

It didn't cost the game luckily, but definite Bias IMO

Sorry Albert, still coming down from a big night :(
It would be interesting to see stevics stats.

frees against Richmond V the rest of his games, see if there is genuine Bias.

While yesterday's farce was obviously about far more than one decision that free kick payed by Stevic to Cameron against Batch before the ball was bounced at the start of the 2nd quarter was one of the most disgraceful decisions I've ever seen in 25 years of watching footy.

I found it disturbing on so many levels. While it was an insane decision and only a complete idiot would say otherwise myself and some mates were discussing it after the game and the more you analyse it the scarier it is. What could he have possibly payed it for? It wasn't in the back, it wasn't high contact, it wasn't front on contact, it wasn't chopping the arms and he wasn't holding him. Quite apart from the fact that it was ridiculously soft and a joke there's actually no rule in Australian football that could possibly justify making such a decision.

I'm assuming Stevic asked Batch to stop it once or twice before he actually payed the free kick which is very concerning in the first place as he has absolutely no right to. Then when Batch ignores him (as he should) he pays a free against him. Basically we're talking about a guy with absolutely no regard for the rules of footy saying "Do what I'd like you to do and play exactly the way I'd like you to play in a perfect world because I'm the guy with the whistle and if you don't I'll penalise you even if you're not breaking any rules." If that's not a worry I don't know what is.

Matthew Stevic should seriously be suspended for that. I was at the game yesterday and if I saw him in a bar afterwards or at the airport on the way back to Melbourne I'd have absolutely no hesitation in walking up to him point blank and telling him he's a *smile* idiot. Not sure when that will change...if ever.

Just thought i would throw this into the mix.

2012: frees for against

lids 15 4
Nick R. 23 7
D.Cox 28 10
Pendlebury 15 4
J Selwood 26 9
Buddy 25 30

All currently rated in the top 50.

The question I ask are some just clever or what?

Which clown of an umpire paid the deliberate out of bounds against Batch in the second qtr. Right on the wing in a contest with Brogan.

As bad as some of the umpiring was, that was a shocker.

That free kick against Batch(you all know the one) would that umpire( you know who) have paid that free if it was Mick Martyn doing the nigling

When i played footy, they were the free kicks you didnt want to get because you knew what was coming (via a smack in the head) at the next contest or as soon as the umpire turned his back.

Yep Batch had one of those days yesterday. Could not do a thing right and even the umpires seemed to join in. He was on the end of some terrible decisions.

Perfectly put! And seeing as Vlad says people in the game cannot comment on the umpiring, how can it ever improve?

I am hopeful this is just one of those things that consumes us for a few weeks and then moves on - like Clarko's zone, hands in the back rule, the rushed behind rule change etc.

The games up to the Port game involving Richmond were umpired in such a way that I didn't really notice the umpiring. Sure there were the odd bad decisions for soft infringements, but both sides seem to benefit equally and most of time they were technically there. None of our first six games were decided by umpiring.

From the Swans game onwards, I have found myself thinking that each week I watch the worst umpiring I have seen in a long time - that is, each week, it gets worse. The one exception is that nothing will ever beat the terrible umpiring for the first 3 quarters of the dockers game - ever!!!

I wonder if other fans have noticed a similar thing, that is, ok umpiring for the first thrid of the season and woeful umpiring over the last month or so.

Could it be related to the wetter weather? Players slide more, fumble more and slip more. All three things invite unlawful contact. The AFL should know by now that South Eastern Australia is usually wetter duing the winter months, and they should have trained their umpires to allow for that long before now. Just like at finals time, the umpires tend to blow for less frees, so they should during the wet season. Unexplainable stoppages are the biggest blight on the game right now and it needs to be rectified.

Don't worry guys. Giesch will do his weekly show and look at a few decisions that were right and say how awesome they were frollicking around and all will be good.
