I think 2020 with all the issues around that season, broke Hardwick. He, and the club, have never been quite right since.

2022 we were prestias hammy and a lynch straight kick / non-FARC away from giving it a pretty good shake. Dusty’s kidney didn’t help much either.

The rewriting of history here is pretty interesting.

There were a bunch of factors that lead to the demise, but what we accomplished in 2020 really took a lot out of the entire team and the coaching staff.

The covid premiership
Took the last bit of energy out of the group.
It was like 3 yrs in 1.
The West Coast game the year after (4goals up with 7mins to go and we still lost) that was the game that turned us from unbeatable to a normal every day Team.
We were never the same.

This is where luck pays a huge part in any teams success.

The kick to Kennedy travelled 7-8m at best.

The kick for any normal AFL player is about a 10% chance to be a goal.

With that said we win this game we still don’t make the 8 if everything else is the same. We just got crippled by injuries in 2021.

Yep, including his wife separation which I'm starting to believe more now affected his coaching attitude and the team someway. After the 2020 flag, I seriously thought Dimma (being an accountant and able to plan) had a proper long-term plan for us knowing how to maintain the success of winning 3 flags in 4 years (how did the Hawks in the 80s do it??) but instead it seems like he partied too much and went off the rails by leaving his wife, losing Fly and Leppa, etc... and we ended up going downhill a bit.

I do agree with him. Essendumb are a bunch of spuds.
Worst lost I can remember since the one to North in the finals 2015

what to say about all this ...

Dimma and his assistants got us playing the best football I have ever seen, and in the process changed the game.
We won 3 flags, and it should've been 4 (on the trot).
Marriage breakups aren't fun.
THC has a negative influence.
