Trent Cotchin (Merged)

If Cotch doesn't reach 300 games, it has no effect on his legacy and has no impact on him becoming an AFL life member (already is) or Hall of Famer.

There is no benefit in him reaching 300 other than the good feels that would come with it.

It would also likely be embarrassing for him to retire so early in the season.

Interesting times.

I don't know when the mid season draft is but it was Round 11 last year so he won't be at 300 games by then.

the game was a turn over fest , the commentators moaned about it all game

Cotchin gets a mark on the wing , 3rd qtr , he pauses instead of frantically rushing , and then pops it over to Broad who is now safely clear
Broad follows his example , a slight pause with ball in hand and it results in a goal that looked like a training drill

The former captain set the example , you can be quick without rushing

so maybe his next 6 - 8 games mightn't be high possession , but still set a good example and an important one for Young , Clarke & Sonsie to up close

The champ has obviously lost the drive from his legs, but geez they aren't making it easy for him playing as a small/medium forward for the most part.

Especially in our current team. It's a graveyard spot that really doesn't suit him. Bloody tough.

I find myself cringing now whenever this thread is at the top of the page.
I say, oh he's made the call.
Then I click and read the latest comments and say "Phew"!

Sad for how The Chimpah will be remembered.
Just can't cover the ground, our great Warrior Triple Premiership Captain.

Yeh its *smile* ridiculous. It's the last place for a guy struggling for pace and agility should play.

I still think he should get some time in the backline. He is very good one on one and is sure handed. His kicking is OK for the short stuff in the backline.

100% he should.

Especially the way we've turned it over bringing it all year.

If they are determined to get him to 300 then just play him on the ball. Large stints on the sideline and the one to be subbed on most occasions. Play him where he at least knows what to do. Don't try and hide him in some fwd pocket. Almost like they are saying just hide here Cotch till you get to 300 because we know you aren't capable anymore but this way you might snag a goal and look like you are doing something. Supporters aren't dumb!

He won’t be remembered for this. He’ll be remembered as a triple Premiership winning captain.

The Rot set in when our Captain stood down.

it was a dumb idea, poorly executed

Spot on.
He was the only one talking on the bench.
I love Grimes but no way is he AFL captain.
Nakas is lucky to be in best 22.
Cotchin shouldve stayed captain till he retired.
Lynch was unlucky not to be selected

Agree he should have stayed Captain until he retired. In the same way, he should go back into the midfield until he retires - whether that’s one game, the six for 300 or more.

Would you move a runner like Rioli/Baker/Short, an intercepter like Vlastuin/Broad or a tall like Grimes/Balta/Young?

The way we are going it might be worth a try regardless.

Retire for the good of the team.

I think the team today could use a Milestone match as significant as Chimp's 300th. They're down and confused. Celebrating Chimps 300th might stoke that badly needed fire.

He'll also get a fair amount of good press in the week leading up to it, reliving our glory years. Feel good all round.

Then there is us. Personally I want to see Cotchin reach the 300 Milestone. It'll be the cherry on his AFL 4-tiered cake

Trent is still a better player than a dozen or more of our players. It's a catch 22 situation, because those 12 odd players need to be given games.

If next week was the first week of the finals, Chimp plays everyday of the week.
