Trent Cotchin (Merged)

So weird seeing him named on the extended bench after a couple of weeks being subbed in & out.
Assuming he'll play but not totally sure what they're doing with Cotch atm apart from try to get him to 300.
If he plays & struggles again then things will get more awkward. Hope he plays well.
I would ignore the bench- I assume they know who is in the 22, and they just have name 4 guys on the bench.

and I reckon there is no reason to assume he is being carried to 300. Yet. If he plays this week and has 4 kicks again and doesnt get dropped then there might be something to it.

I want to see Shai , Dusty, Cotch and Pickett played through the middle for bursts , to cause Melb some problems and pressure. If we trot out the same same midfield to me that is Dimma driven, arrogance, no imagination and where his Assistants have no input.
I'm amazed at this paragraph here.

We get Dimma can't coach, he's only been successful because he had good assistant coaches (which is offensive to him). This must mean he listens.

Or now we get he's driving everything, has no imagination and won't listen to others? This same guy has tried Balta as a forward, Baker everywhere, Rioli in defence, Castagna as a forward, Short as a defender (the last 2 were opposite in u18), a first gamer in a grand final, Townsend as a second forward. Egads, if he's not imaginative, I don't know what is.

Couldn’t agree more with you Coburg.

Reeks of ‘arrogance’, being ‘too clever’, thinking that ‘ Taranto/ Hopper ‘ were the ‘missing link’ to another flag tilt.

Cumberland experiment. Plays round 1 , we win, not draw.

Cotchin , played mainly as a forward this year in a role, true Caesar stated he was training in that rôle preseason, is just against his decade long contribution. Play him at the start of each quarter. A burst period. It’s sad watching his past few games.

Collingwood game three ‘talls in the rain. Terrible selection. Second half a turnaround due to structure more suited to the conditions.

Dogs game. Trying to play dry weather football ( as we did in that second quarter burst ) when it rained / ball slippery conditions in the second half.
Coach error or player error. What was the message at HT?

Swans. Undisciplined disaster. Many players who played poorly. Riddled game with skills by hand and foot embarrassing. A game with so many injuries, Swans hit harder, yet we think we can win games by playing a good quarter.

As I’ve stated earlier . Near the bottom of the ladder ( equal ) last for quarters won.

Melb Monday night will tell me more about the coaches and players mindset.

If it gets hard will they fight it out or will the white flag be waved.

I know Daniel Rioli is one of our best rebound defenders.

I know Goodwin wouldn’t expect this!

Put Mansell back, Baker back.

Swap Rioli forward now that he seems over his foot injury and playing very good footy with Maurice Rioli. Might just ignite the forward line.

Miller back and taking where possible ruck duties in the back half. Not as a forward.

Try and mix the ruck up with Miller, Samson & Balta.

Just my thoughts.

I know nothing.
Creative coaching is certainly needed at the current time. I'd also have our ruckman run with Melbourne's spare ruck at all times. Gawn and Grundy can't be left to take uncontested marks down the line as we exit from our defensive end.

Yes, I agree, people who say Dimma can’t coach - and this was a recurring theme even through our 3 flags - are the sort of people who respectfully and happily travel to watch tennis being played on the moon.

Had moments. He tried hard but they run off him easily. Setup goals in first qtr but he can’t chase. A bit sad watching a brutal centre square competitor dying on a half forward flank.

What’s that trying to improve our team to get some wins on the board?
play the kids? Mate, we went over this ad infinitum last season. You're barking up the wrong tree. Its the view of one with no brains and no heart IMHO.

I could write an essay with clear, well structured evidence based reasons refuting your argument, but I couldn't be stuffed and it would have no effect. I think you'll just keep plucking out an aging legend to scapegoat after a few losses in perpetuity.

It pains me to say it. Too often his opponents just waltzed out of the backline. Cotch just can’t chase, it means they have an easy outlet and an additional player moving the ball forward, while Cotch is still puffing in the forward line.

Stats flattered his contribution, one chain of possessions in the last quarter made him look useful. But the reality is, he was a passenger for most of the night. A couple of useful plays then it was goodnight.
Cotch should have been subbed for fresh legs and pace, but no, the whole complexion of the team was changed dramatically when Miller was subbed off.
Poor goal kicking and poor player selection/positioning cost us.

Im not sure where we can play him to our advantage to be honest

This miller would have saved us line is annoying the *smile* out me.
Well we’ll never know now.
Im not sure it’s the “would have saved us line” but more so tactically we have to rearrange half the side to cover him going out.
Balta to ruck depleted our tall stock in defence, Van Rooyen got an easy run and kicked 3? goals in that time. Cotch got run off all game, giving them an easy outlet and an extra number running in to the oppo forward line.
That annoyed the *smile* out of me. And contributed to the winning margin. As well as some poor set shot kicking on goal.
Is it hard to not to acknowledge that?

Did you not see Cotchy going into packs and going for hospital ground balls to create chances when the game was on the line? Did that annoy the *smile* out of you?

Miller the messiah, FFS.

Nobody is calling Miller the messiah, but structurally that change completely stuffed us up. Maybe we wouldn't have won anyway, but we were absolutely destroyed in the air in the last quarter. Upto quarter time, we were at least breaking even in the forward line, were dominating their talls in defence. Like it or not, the lack of talls rooted us in the final quarter. Thats not say Miller is the messiah or whatever spin you want to put on it, but our entire gameplan then broke down from that point on.
